Abstract

This paper intends to find out the personality traits and career preference of 106 Nursing students using International Personality Item Pool Big-Five Personality Factor Markers (IPIP Big-5) and Holland’s Career Inventory. Career theorists like Gottfredson (1981) and Holland (1959) contend that personality traits and career or occupational choice must be fit or congruent to predict good adjustment, work enjoyment, and optimum achievement of goals. Such being the case, the two abovementioned variables are correlated. Results showed that the personality traits of the respondents are Neuroticism (78.30%) and Conscientiousness (70.7%) while their career preference are Social (70.75%) and Investigative (58.49%). There is medium correlation between personality and career choice (r=0.41).
