Students love to experiment and engage in the process of scientific discovery. Scientist of the week is a structure that exists in several of our classes. Each week a student selects an experiment and preps, prepares and demonstrates it to their class. This structure spreads the wonder and discovery of science and gives our students an amazing opportunity to get in front of the class and talk about what they have learned. This is a reflection from Sedona in Mrs. Hamersley's class.
"I’m Sedona and on January the 9th I did a science experiment for my class.
A plate, 1 half of a cup of milk, food coloring, dish soap and a cloth and
those were the things I used in my science experiment.
It was so cool and my class liked it!"
Our District is now in full support using the G-Suite platform. All staff are now starting to use G-suite for Education applications, and several classes have initiated google classrooms around our district (including 3 here at MPE). I am very excited for some of the increased efficiencies and capacity for collaboration that this platform can allow for.
At this time, not all student accounts have been created, however a process has been initiated. If you have questions around G-suite and what it can do for your child in our education system please contact Mr. Maynard.
One of our favourite times in the office is when our Kindergarten students come visit to bring down the attendance or when the class is out on an investigation. Right before the Winter break Mrs. Friends class was investigating what happened to the Gingerbread man. One of the clues was in the office. After they found him, the class made gingerbread cookies. I love to see their excitement and energy as they went from clue to clue before they were able to find him.
The Sea to Sky School District is rolling out School Cash Online as an easy to use, safe and convenient way for parents and guardians to pay for their children’s school fees, such as field trips and yearbooks.
Powered by Canadian firm KEV Group, School Cash Online strictly adheres to Canada’s privacy and anti-spam legislation and meets the latest industry standards for payment security. Any Canadian data collected is held on Canadian servers.
Please note:
Online payment will now be the preferred method of settling school fees and all parents will be encouraged to use this system. During our transition to online payment, parents will still be able to pay by cheque or cash, if they wish.
This project is based around filming biweekly news reports focusing on the learning within the classroom. In the simplest sense it’s a clever way to reflect on learning! Students will be assigned roles and ‘segments’ based on core subjects (math, language arts, and projects), as well as voluntary segments that students can create.
We have multiple lights, microphones and a green screen to capture the action. Interviews can be used to supplient stories, as well as background images and additional video footage.
The project began by analyzing and critiquing existing student news reports and CBC reports. We focused on what makes a good report, and what we should avoid when recording and editing.
In addition to the required core reporting, students can propose segments with storyboards and scripts, such as: top 10s, recipe of the week, sports, E-Sports, and fun commercials!
With filming underway it’s down to the computers to begin the editing process!
