We all have relationships with other people in our lives, and those relationships all look different! No two people are exactly the same, and no two relationships look exactly the same either. So how do we build a community around us that will encourage, support, and challenge us to reach our goals?

In a talk about understanding and practicing the art of healthy relationships, Katie Hood reveals the five signs you might be in an unhealthy relationship -- with a romantic partner, a friend, a family member -- and shares the things you can do every day to love with respect, kindness and joy. "While love is an instinct and an emotion, the ability to love better is a skill we can all build and improve on over time," she says.
In this unit you will explore what components make a healthy relationship. Then, you will explain why those components are they key pieces to building those healthy relationships. Check out the infographics below and see what common themes help determine if a relationship is healthy or not. Consider your own relationships in light of the information on each of the graphics. Ask yourself, How do my relationships fit these characteristics?

Choose ONE of the tasks below to help you identify healthy relationships in your own life.
Create a 10 question interview that you could ask someone to help them determine if they are in a healthy relationship. Make sure you include questions that help the interviewee to determine at least 2 cause and effect relationships.
Write about a time when you have had a healthy relationship. Explain how you knew it was healthy, the components of it and why those components made it healthy.
Write about a time when you have had an unhealthy relationship. Explain how you knew it was unhealthy, the components of it and why those components made it unhealthy.
Write a letter to your younger self, giving wise words to build a healthy relationship and words of caution for avoiding and dealing with unhealthy relationships. Consider the characteristics highlighted in the TED Talk and the infographics about what makes a healthy relationship.
