September 2024
Welcome to Gotham Tech High School's Newspaper! We are so excited to see you again, or for the first time! We are here to spread news, be it club, school, or nation wide. If you would like to join the club, please talk to Mr. Lento, in room A4 (004) in the Atlas building. If you want to write an article for just one month, that's amazing too! And again, welcome to Gotham Tech.
Cancer is the unwanted and irregular multiplication of cells. Typically, the multiplication of cells is a welcomed phenomenon, but cancer cells are uncontrollable; damaging the body as it spreads. While all cancers are relatively similar, there are many different types of cancer, affecting different parts of the body. One of the more well known cancers is blood cancer, or leukemia. Over a million people suffer from blood cancer world wide, and blood donations are able to help. To donate blood, go to any blood donation center, where you are not only giving to people in need, but you also get to learn your blood type and get free snacks afterwards. Overall, blood cancer is a very harsh cancer as it affects the blood that pumps throughout your body, and you can help by donating your time and blood so others can get better.

The New York Public libraries are places of community. They offer many different things throughout the year: read-alongs, free internet/wifi, movie showings, classes for kids crafting, art making, computer classes, dance, and adult crafts, along with different training such as OSHA and driving. Libraries also give to their communities by hosting for the homeless, help for queer teens, and many others. Then there are the things that any library has, such as books, eBooks, audio books, DVDs, CDs, printers, and computers for anyone's use and borrowing. Not only are there so many services available, they are also free so anyone can use them. Now, libraries do not charge late fees, only some charging if materials are damaged. Though libraries offer all of these things, they are not free for the library to host, for they take up some of the libraries budget. To support your local libraries, you can sign up for a library card, completely free of charge. Doing so will give you access to hundreds of resources that you can access in any library throughout the city, or online. You can also use the computers at the libraries, along with all digital media and databases that the library is connected to. Overall, libraries are major parts of our New York communities that are taken for granted, so go support your nearest one by signing up for a library card, along with some programs that it’s offering!

Occurring on the 21th of September, this day is used to raise awareness for people with Alzheimer’s, a neurodegenerative disease. It is considered a lesser issue although it poses a high risk to the American people. People affected by the disease may refuse treatment or even receive a diagnosis because people will perceive them as different or unable to enjoy life. But tackling the issue before it gets worse is important. If you think someone you know might have Alzheimer’s disease, encourage them to get tested and/or treated, as everybody deserves to enjoy life.

National Suicide Prevention awareness month falls in September to raise awareness about all those who have been taken by suicide and those who are experiencing such thoughts. It impacts millions of Americans alone and not everybody is educated on how to identify the signs. There are many resources that can be used to help you and for starters, talk to someone that you trust. There’s also people who you can talk to online, anonymously.
