March 2023
These are the students who are running in this election.
The candidates have introduced themselves and talked about their goals for the school.
Reminder: Tomorrow is the election.
Fabian feels he has what is needed to win and lead the school. He wants to fundraise for music and the arts. He also hopes to raise enough money to take the school on an end-of-year trip. If elected, he will improve the environment of the school and keep it orderly.
Adrian plans to change the school for the better to make the people happy, by encouraging them to implement more clubs. If elected, Adrian claims he will make sure everyone's rights and voices are acknowledged.
Amir plans to have off campus lunch/recess allowing kids to get their own lunch within 45 minutes. To add on, he wants to get new vending machines with better options. If elected, Amir promises to talk to people within the community and ask them what they would like to change.
Alex plans to add more exciting clubs to further expand curiosity and engagement in students. He also wants to have more field trips to broaden student understanding of the outside world.
Rachael claims she will always be your #1 reliable person to talk to whether academically or personally. Whether fighting for field day or outdoor lunch, Rachael is dedicated to ensure that all students get the education they deserve. She goes by "YOUR vote YOUR voice"
Wilder is claiming that he will make it so more than one person will be able to use the restroom at a time. He will get it so we can have off campus lunch, and have a more fun school day. He says that he is a "pretty good guy," and thus, you should vote for him.
Viktor is responsible for initiating the idea of off-campus recess. He is also planning to help enforce new policies for the school involving food in classrooms and what is allowed in school.
Randy is planning to give the school more after lunch activities, and helping to make the school cleaner. He claims he will help around the school to make it more appealing to the students and staff. He says that if anyone is ever in any danger, he will try to help and get them to calm down.
Roman believes he will be a great secretary as he is good at recording information. If elected, he'll make sure every event runs smoothly.
Determined to bring positive change to Gotham, Andrew is dedicated to working with each and every one of his peers closely. He will especially work with the Vice President and President to make the school a better place.
As secretary, Yuan will listen and consider the requests of the people and attempt to grant them to the best of his ability. He hopes to add more after school activities for the students.
The Demon Dogs, team number 22437, is one of the several teams at Gotham Tech High School. Despite being rookies, they had the longest season out of our school's teams. Having made it to the NYC Championship, ranking 8th before the final alliances were chosen. They have gotten close to winning multiple awards. They were the first pick for the winning alliance at Qualifier 7, on February 4, 2023. When asked questions, here is how they answered:
“We felt good to win and felt empowered as a team. We would like to add more people into the team, and grow that way.”
Alex added that, “the championships started off good, but we started messing up on a few rounds, which brought our placement down. During one of the rounds the autonomous led to our robot entangling with another team's, leading to minor penalties.”
"We started off doing our own work to contribute to the team. We didn’t communicate that much.”
"It was until further into the school year that we started working together, sharing socials, and actually getting invested.”
"If we were to start over, we would have a successful robot for the competition that could tackle the complexities of the NYC First challenge, improve and update the portfolio from the beginning, try to get to the point where we would receive more awards, gain more experience by connecting with mentors at the STEM Center, fundraise more for better materials, such as odometry wheels, which allows more precise movement and points, and talk to more companies to potentially have sponsors."
“If robotics is what you want to do, go for it. But if you don’t enjoy building the actual robot, there are other roles, like designing and programming. You should also increase work ethic and try your best. Teamwork is important so everyone should contribute to make sure the team is working smoothly.”

Many different groups of women throughout history have made big contributions to their communities and society as a whole. These span from activists to nonprofits to social leaders.
One activist that stands out amongst others is Marsha P. Johnson. Johnson played a large role in the foundation of gay and transgender rights in New York. She was a leading activist in the Stonewall riots. Johnson was well known as a “Queen” or “Saint” by the people around her. She was even credited with saving a child's life. At the start of the Stonewall riot, she was said to be the first person to throw a brick, which ended up triggering the fight. It is said that what she threw was the “shot glass heard across the world.” (WomensHistory.org)
Founded after going to get groceries, a group called ‘Las Patronas’ started giving food out to immigrants on a train. A group founded by the Romero Vazquez sisters, when they heard people on the side of a train saying that they were hungry. Now doing this for two decades, they give out food to people who need them, along with necessities and clothes. These women have been giving their community what their government hasn't, leading to their cause being more important and necessary. They are bringing joy and help to the people around them what they need. (BBC.com)
These are just two different things that different women have done that have helped their communities in significant ways. One being the trans community, while the other is the less fortunate. There are many different ways that one can help others, and these people only show two of them.

With updated displays and a new look, the R211As have entered service on the (A) line! Other new trains like the picture shown, will be rolling out very soon on other routes in the system.
The new cars have digital advertisements, digital customer information displays, illuminated door opening alerts, and security cameras. These cars would also have larger doors that provide easier access into the train.
Each car contains an on-board computer system that could detect breakdowns in critical systems such as braking and door-opening. In addition, touch screen displays are present throughout the subway cars, allowing people to zoom in and out of the map. Most of the screens, which are known as the "Flexible Ceiling Strip Display," also display additional information, such as specific bus transfers, elevator locations, and which car the customer is located in. However, this feature was not shown to be operational during the first few days of passenger service, but may become operational in the near future.
Not only will the new and improved train go into Queens, Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx, but it will also be coming into Staten Island to run on the Staten Island Railway later this year! In conclusion, tourists and city goers alike will enjoy riding this train. Have fun, don't vandalize it, and be on the lookout for this and the future cars of the MTA.

A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the area of Southern Turkey and Northern Syria on February 6th at 4:17 a.m. local time. The earthquake caused the destruction of many buildings which left millions of citizens without shelter, while also killing and injuring more than 50,000 people in Syria and Turkey combined. Many were also left trapped in rubble for days; with most survivors returning to their homes to find nothing left. Out of need, many resorted to starting bonfires and huddled inside of cars.

Through a partnership with Ms. Gordon and Mr. Yee's Capstone classes, we searched various charities that are in need. This year, their classes have decided to partner with the non-profit organization "Doctors Without Borders", which helps people around the world gain access to medical treatments that may be essential for life.
Our hope is to build meaningful connections between ourselves and people/organizations in our community and around the world. Additionally, our teachers have stressed the importance of community service and networking to obtain internships prior to college. We hope to have lasting partnerships with organizations in NYC and around the world.
