Native American Heritage Month
The month of November, like many others, represents a group of people who have faced hardships, displaying different ways we can show gratitude and celebrate their culture and ability to overcome. Starting in 1990, by former president George H. W. Bush, we celebrate the Native American People’s heritage. The Native American people are the people descended from the different tribes and social groups that lived in the Americas before the colonists and explorers arrived. These people have faced many hardships, from being pushed off of their land, killed, and segregated. This month honors their way of living, from hundreds of years ago to today.
One event held in November, is the recognition of the different achievements and contributions that the Native People have had throughout history. These achievements can be listed as the creations of different kinds of commonly used items: raised-beds, protective eye-wear, baby bottles, kayaks, etc. Such different items have led to the creation of modern day appliances that help people’s work and daily lives. Some notable contributions range from the helping of different settler groups hundreds of years ago, to being a large portion of the armed forces.
This month, we can all help celebrate the Native American people by supporting Native American-owned businesses, helping for their rights, and talking about their accomplishments. Without them, we would not have our home country of the United States of America.

National Dog Show
For those of us who watched the Macy's Day Parade this year, you may have caught the The National Dog Show that aired immediately after it. An annual pageant where many different types of purebred dogs are shown off to judges to grade (find out what the overall ‘best’ dog is), the National Dog Show is run by the American Kennel Club. Founded in 1884, the National Dog Show is put on annually, and has been for the past 125 years. During this show, 250 selected dog breeds are shown off, separated into seven (7) different categories, Terrier, Toy, Working, Sporting, Hound, Non-Sporting, and Herding. Then, the different dogs are shown off, based on their ‘competitions’ with others of the same-sex and breed. From here, seven dogs are nominated, where one will be selected as the 'best' of their class. The best performing of those seven become best of show. This is then streamed every year after the Macy’s Day Parade, on Thanksgiving day.

Veterans Day
Veterans Day is celebrated annually on the 11th of November. It celebrates all veterans, and their service to the country. The holiday occurs on this day as during World War I, November 11, 1921, 11:11, the US, France and England all buried an unknown soldier who died in the war to honor the many unknown who had perished, fighting for their country. 3 years earlier, the Armistice of 1918 signaled the end of the first great war, hence why this date was chosen. The US continued this tradition of burying an unknown soldier for WWII and the Korean war. They would bury them at Arlington National Cemetery and unknown soldiers would continue to be buried there. A ceremony is held on this day at 11am to commemorate the anonymous fallen. It is a bit late if you want to celebrate this holiday, but it’s never too late to thank your friendly neighborhood veteran!

Shucked Review
Shucked is a comical musical about a girl named Mazey who lives in Cobb County. A town that is protected by stalks of corn as high as an elephant's eye. When all of a sudden, the corn starts to wither away. In all doubt she ventured off to Tampa, Florida, trying to find someone who specializes in corn to help. When Mazey returns with the "corn specialist", everyone is in doubt. The musical overall had extremely funny moments, some really good songs and strong character development. I would highly recommend watching Shucked before it comes off Broadway on January 14 2024. Buy tickets here!

Below is a example of a students creative work that has been shared with us for this publication:
"It was about 2:30pm, there was a dark shadow over a beautiful field, the dark mass being overpassing clouds that seemed to breeze past the earth in a carefree manner.
There was silence. A simple, albeit tense silence, but a silence nonetheless, one shared between two rather unique entities, Heart, and the infamous Rat god. Her appearance was definitely jarring to the name, being very humanoid and quite adorable, unlike the creature that her name implies to rule over.
The two sat side by side in the middle of the field, heads up to the sky, watching the thin clouds pass them by.
Heart had been made unintentionally aware of her existence, and in the midst of worrying for his friend and owner, who seemed to be going through a rather strange sense of schizophrenia, had also been putting together the questionable pieces of a distorted and confusing puzzle. His suspicions, from what his friend has told him, lead to her. Heart wasn’t the kind to just beat at someone without reason, but he felt he had good reason for doing so today, his friends life and well being was on the line, literally, he was going to die tonight after all.
“So.. you called me here? Why?” The ‘god’ finally spoke, not taking her eyes off the slowly shifting sky.
Heart sighed, his eye closing as he began to congregate a sort of song, one that emitted from the very accumulation of his being, as it usually did. The song was, off putting, in a very discreet way, the melody and meaning trapped between an uneasy, melancholy, yet upbeat tune.
“I want to know what you’ve told Mad Rat and what your plans are with him.” He paused briefly,
“And for the record, I don’t trust you in the slightest.”
Heart finally concluded, despite his rather stern tone, his facial expression didn’t change.
The Rat God smiled gently, though there was a sort of darkness to her eyes as she continued to stare up at the sky.
“Have you ever had any regrets? That if you were about to die, and were granted the ability to relive your last day and fulfill any wish you had, be it enact revenge or do something… drastic… to keep yourself alive longer, would you accept?” "
