SWBAT:
Choose a theme for a magazine cover and take 10 photos that relate to that theme
Review and practice previously learned photo editing and retouching skills; edit one photo to be used for the upcoming Magazine Cover project

This assignment is preparing you for the Magazine Cover assignment that we will be doing as part of the Page Layout Unit that we will be workon on next.
Reflect on what your interests are
Choose a topic for your future Magazine Cover project (See options listed to the right if needed)
Outside of class, over the course of several days, take photos that you could potentially use for your Magazine Cover. When you take the photos, try to think about where the text for your cover will go.
When the assignment is due, you will submit 10 of your photos. It's ok to submit photos that you already took.
It's ok if you don't you don't want to use any of your 10 photos for your cover; you can search for one on the internet!

Go to the assignment posting where you uploaded your 10 photos and download the photo you want to use for your Magazine Cover
or
You can search on the Internet for a Photo (See notes about images size)
Open your downloaded/Internet Photos in Photoshop
Save > As and Name your file "Magazine Photo" followed by a space, your last name and then your first
EXAMPLE: Magazine Photo Hooker Martina.jpg
Upload This File to the Assignment Posting. This should be your 11th upload
Internet Image Size Requirements
2550 x 3300 or larger
(You will crop it to the exact size and resolution in the next section)
Open your Magazine Photo file in Photoshop
Image > Duplicate
Name Example: Magazine Photo EDITED Hooker Martina
Open Magazine Photo Edited file
Select the CROP tool
In the OPTIONS bar enter the settings shown in the screenshot above. Be sure to include deselecting the "Delete Cropped Pixels" so that your entire original image remains intact in case you need it.
Move the crop handles to crop your image the way you want.
Leave the crop handles as they are if you don't want to cut off any of the image but complete the crop command to change the image size.
When you file after cropping it, it will automatically be converted from a JPEG to a PSD file
VERY IMPORTANT: Deselect the CHECKBOX next to Delete Cropped Pixels
Open your cropped Magazine Photo Edited file
Make and name layers (at least 7 total) to show your work like you did for the Family Extension file (see screenshot left)
Use any learning from the Photo editing lessons. You can use learning from other assignments as well! Edit as you choose! No restrictions. No requirements other than that you edit and show your work in 7 layers.

When you are done with your layered file, save it and upload it to the assignment posting.
Upload This File to the Assignment Posting. This should be your 12th upload
Save!
Image > Duplicate
In the Duplicate Image Window, name your file Magazine Photo Edited FLAT followed by your last name and then your first. Example:
Close your Layered file (protection against flattening it by mistake)
Double check that you have the correct file open before you flatten it
Turn off any layers you don't want showing.
Layer > Flatten Image
Save
Upload your flattened file to the assignment posting
Upload This File to the Assignment Posting. This should be your 13th upload
30 Points: 10 PHOTOS: 10 original photos were uploaded to the assignment posting.
10 Points: MAGAZINE PHOTO: The chosen Magazine Cover Photo file was named as directed
45 Points: MAGAZINE PHOTO EDITED: The Magazine Photo file was cropped as directed with the correct image size and has 7 layers. The 7 layers show exploration of previously learned photo editing and retouching skills.
10 Points: MAGAZINE PHOTO EDITED FLAT : The Magazine Photo Edited Flat file is a flattened copy of the layered version. The file is the correct size and was named as directed.
