Hello DCS students and families,
Welcome to the start of another school year! Whether your family will be sending students to school or you have decided that learning remotely is a better fit for now, we are really looking forward to working with your child!
Let me take a moment to introduce this year's PE staff. I (Mr. Ruest) have returned to DCS and will be working with Mr. James Pagnoni throughout the course of the year. Mr. Pagnoni is currently a UNH student and will be completing his Physical Education Teaching Internship at DCS. Welcome Mr. Pagnoni! Mrs. Lance will be returning to DCS in a few weeks, but for now, Miss Brooke Laskowsky will be filling in for her until she returns. Welcome Miss Laskowsky!
Just like last spring, DCS has created this web site to be an information hub for parents and students. We will use this site to post information and share resources. For now, you may want to check out our IA Open House Video and our Being Prepared for Physical Education section below. There's also an information section specifically for remote learners. As the school year evolves, so will this web site so check back often.
Once again, we look forward to working with all the students. It's going to be a great year despite the unusual start!
Very Sincerely Yours,
Mark Ruest
DCS Physical Education TeacherWe will be outside most days.
Please dress your child to be outdoors and active.
Students will need clothes that protect them from bugs, sun, light rain, wind and cold depending on the day.
Students will need to wear clothes that allow for movement and can get dirty and wet.
Consider providing a change of socks (and maybe shoes) as the outdoor fields can be wet (even on nice days) due to morning dew / condensation, etc.
Note: It is unlikely that middle school students will be able to change before and after class until physical education classes are held indoors on a regular basis.
Please have your child wear sneakers that tie / fasten securely.
Consider packing a water bottle that has the student's name on it.
The Integrated Arts Team will be providing lessons and instruction for our remote learners.
IA teachers will work on four week cycles to provide online learning opportunities for remote students. This means, for four weeks a student will receive instruction from a particular IA teacher / team. At the end of the four weeks, the student will be "passed along" to the next IA teacher / team for a new series of lessons.
Physical Education will begin with students in Grades 6, 7 and 8. *These students will receive access to one lesson each week.*
Students in grades 6, 7 and 8 will need to join a Google Classroom. *Invitations to Google Classrooms have been sent to these remote learners.*
Assignments will be posted using the Google Classroom platform.
I created a YouTube channel so I would have a place to organize and share videos related to physical activities and wellness.
I'm hoping it will allow me to create and store videos for online instruction and stay connected to my DCS Students..
Here is a video of my static stretching routine after a run. As I watched the video back I realized I forgot to include one or two exercises that I like to do. I'll have to include them if I do another stretching / cool down type video. Also, at the end, you'll see me use a bead roller on some muscles / muscle groups. I use it to reduce soreness and increase my body's ability to recover from the workout.
