Annual Trip
Every year, Shaler Area High School's Performing Arts Department organizes a trip to showcase the hard work and musical prowess of SAHS Band members, give them the opportunity to learn from nationally recognized music professionals, and most of all work together as a group to represent our music program, school district, and state.

Trip details are typically announced in the beginning of the school year.
The most recent trip was on April 18-21, 2024, when the band traveled to Norfolk and Virginia Beach, VA for the 71st "Norfolk NATO Festival's Parade of Nations!"

How to Participate in the Spring 2025 Trip
Sign Up by the Deadline in Fall 2024 (Date TBA)
Register with Group Collect by the specified date
All trip payments will be made directly to Group Collect. SABPA applies fundraisers to Group CollectProvide proof to your respective director of a 2.0 GPA
Pay non-refundable deposit by September 15
Student will not be considered as “traveling” until the non-refundable deposit is recorded and they are registered in Group Collect.Keep up with payment schedule
After the non-refundable deposit, there are 5 remaining payments due on the 15th of each month, with the last one due in February.Remain eligible to travel.
Failure to fulfill eligibility requirements may result in removal from the trip. Students mustMeet field trip attendance requirements
Have a 2.0 GPA and satisfy classwork grades requirements in SASD school board policy 123.2
Abide by the SASD and SAHS policies set in place by the district
Remain in good standing with the local law authorities
Make payments on time payments (see payment schedule on this page)
Miss no more than 10 days of a class
Have no more than 1 incident of OSS or 2 incidents of ISS
Attend rehearsals and the mandatory pre-trip meeting
What Does It Cost?
There is a non-refundable deposit per student
Travel protection is available for individual purchase
Family financial obligations. All financial obligations must be MET on time each month by either direct payments and /or fundraising. Failure to meet any of these deadlines will make the Student ineligible to go on the Spring 2025 Performing Arts Department Adjudication Trip. This balance schedule is meant to be a best estimate of the total trip cost at this time. Financial and calendar adjustments to this schedule may occur due to economic and itinerary changes and influences.
If you must withdraw from the trip: Students withdrawing from the trip are required to notify the director and student records contact in writing (U.S. Mail or email). Student removal will not occur without contact in writing (U.S. Mail or email).

Field trip attendance requirements
This is not the same as the academic attendance policy.
You can't miss more than 10 days of a class. "Missed days" include
being late to school and missing morning classes
early dismissals and missing afternoon classes
sick and excused absences (absences with a note)
School-approved field trips don't count toward the 10 "missed days." Long-term medical absences are considered on a case by case basis.
School Board policy 123.2 - classwork grades requirements
The Eligibility List is generated from Infinite Campus each Friday leading up to the trip.
Students with 69.5% or lower in class will be recommended for tutoring in subject area.
Students with 1 grade below a 59.49% are eligible and are required to attend tutoring throughout the week for subject area.
Students with 2 grades below a 59.49% are ineligible (regardless of GPA) for that week and must attend tutoring sessions in subject area.
If a student is recommended or required to attend tutoring
The student must attend tutoring during study hall, lunch, or after school
The subject area teacher who tutored the student on a daily basis must sign off on the “Eligibility – Accountability Sheet.”
Am I still able to practice if I am recommended for tutoring?
Students will still be able to practice with their respective groups until the time that they meet the requirements of the policy, but they will not be able to perform or compete if deemed ineligible.
What if my grade changes before the week is over?
Even if a grade changes early in the week, they still have to attend tutoring for the entire week and hand in their Accountability sheet at the end of the week.
