"My time at Salem State has been nothing short of transformative. Being a transfer student, I didn't know what to expect from the school, but I realized very quickly that I came to the right place for my BFA. The faculty have nurtured, supported, and encouraged me throughout my entire time here, and I could not be more grateful for that. I found myself as an actor here, and I've never felt more prepared to get out into the world. I look forward to making everyone who's rooted for me proud! I also want to thank Celena, Peter, and Brianne for everything they've done for me. I would not be the actor I am without them!
After graduation, I'm sticking around Boston for a bit with the hopes of moving to New York very soon!"
Congratulations Fernando! ๐
"When I came into this school, I was afraid and incredibly unsure of myself and I didn't know if I chose the right path. I was afraid I wasn't right for the job. Now looking back, about to graduate, I see that I couldn't have made a better decision. My friends and professors have all taught me countless times that this is where I am supposed to be and that I can do it. I couldn't tell you how many times I've had a meltdown and those words were spoken to me. Thank you to everyone for guiding me along this path and showing me that I can, and for consoling me when things were rough. I wouldn't be where I am if it wasn't for you all! Thank you x5!!!"
Congratulations Bovie! ๐
"I came into this school timid, unsure of myself and terrified to fail at any little thing. Now that Iโm graduating I look back and see just how much confidence I have gained in my time here. I donโt think I ever couldโve brought that out myself. I have an unpayable debt to every single person in this department that has helped me along the way, and I thank each and everyone of them. And can you do me one last favor? Take a deep breathe. You all deserve it."
Post-graduation plans: โItโs a secret!โ - Celena Sky April ๐
Congratulations Kenny!๐
"I did not think college would be as transformational of an experience as it was and I truly did not know what to expect. When I started at SSU, I was a shy 18-year-old trying to find where I belonged, and now I am a strong 21-year-old surrounded by great artists and even better friends. Iโve had the time of my life growing and learning with all of you."
Congratulations Hannah! ๐
"My time here at SSU has been a memorable, creative experience. I came into this program as a very scared, shy freshman. I am graduating here, confidently stating I have directed two full productions, found the friends I can call my family away from home, and learned the power that we have in this field. This school has inspired me to continue creating and exploring new ways to touch an audience. I can't wait to see what the future hold for me, and I thank SSU for helping me see what I can do.
Post-graduation plans: Moving into an apartment with my boyfriend!!"
Congratulations JJ! ๐
Congratulations Juaquin! ๐
"Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it! Leaving SSU I do feel successful, I found something that I am passionate about and can't wait to improve my skillsets and overall made great friends along the way.
After graduation: Cross Country Road trip and Electrician work at local theatres ๐"
Congratulations Jasmine! ๐
"My time at SSU has taught me to be resilient and how to stand up for myself. I find myself looking back and realizing that I am a much stronger person than I used to be. My college experience came with some personal hardships but in the end I am leaving a strong, fierce, and well rounded, theatre artist.
After graduation, I am going to be a carpentry apprentice at Olney Theatre Center in Olney Maryland!"
Congratulations Abigale! ๐
"I feel very lucky to have been a part of the Salem State Theatre Department and had the pleasure of working on 17 shows alongside incredible faculty and my wonderful peers. Throughout the past four years I have learned many important life lessons, even when faced with challenges such as our world shutting down for a pandemic. However, we remained resilient, continued to create, and brought back the thing we love.
After graduation: I will be working full-time at a design firm and freelancing within the greater Boston area!"
Congratulations Isaac! ๐
"Iโve felt so fortunate to be able to learn and grow alongside such wonderful people!
This summer Iโll be working as an assistant stage manager for Gloucester Stage Companyโs production of โGloriaโ and then later working as the stage manager for Commonwealth Shakespeare Companyโs apprentice showcase of โPericlesโ!"
Congratulations Cassie!๐
"My time at SSU has been such a ride. I have had so many breakthroughs here not only through acting, but just as a human that I'm so appreciative of.
After graduation, I will be attending Florida Atlantic University to obtain my Acting MFA."
Congratulations Rรฉmani ! ๐
"Lia Marcheterre is a senior finishing up her Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Performance and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She is grateful to have had the opportunity to perform in nine shows during her time at Salem State University. Credits include Ethel Banks (Barefoot in the Park), Marvel Ann (Psycho Beach Party), Thomas Jefferson (O Beautiful), Helena (A Midsummer Nightโs Dream), Ellen (Vinegar Tom), Bassist (Hir), Farrah (She Kills Monsters), #8 (The Wolves), and Tour Guide, Cop Radio, and Attendant (Middletown). As well as participating in theatre, she also was involved in the psychology department where she participated in a semester-long internship at a local high school as a School Adjustment Counselor where she gained experience working in mental health care, working toward future goals of working as a mental health counselor for adolescents.
After graduation: I hope to soon move closer to Boston to begin working in psychology! I definitely plan to keep auditioning when I can."
Congratulations Lia! ๐
"My time at Salem State brought me to people who challenged me, supported me, and gave me opportunities I never thought possible. I was able to forge relationships that not only advanced me academically but grew me into the person I am today. I will take those lessons with me into all my future endeavors.
Post graduation plans: Moving apartment with friends!"
Congratulations Melissa! ๐
"I always knew I wanted to be a well-rounded theatre artist, and I thank the theatre department for giving me the opportunities to grow and explore what that would personally mean for me. I originally started off thinking acting would be my primary focus among everything I learned here, but I quickly fell in love with playwriting. Since then, Iโve explored a few different fields and also fell in love with dramaturgy, directing, and house management. And although my sophomore and junior years were especially affected by the pandemic, I think that these experiences, combined with the support of classmates and faculty over these four years, have helped me to realize what I really want for myself and my career in a way that I might not have realized if the pandemic never happened. I want to thank everyone for all the memories, as I know that when September rolls around, Iโm going to really miss not being here.
After graduation, I plan on working in either local theatres or entertainment venues near my hometown while also building up my resume and writing portfolio before I go to grad school."
Congratulations Stephanie! ๐
" I am grateful to have been in six SSU Mainstage productions, have costume designed the Directing thesis Rabbit Hole, and I wrote a full length play titled: Going to Adultown. These four years have been eventful to say the least, but I feel like SSU has prepared me for life after college!"
Congratulations Symphony! ๐
"The most important thing I learned at SSU is self advocacy, the more mature version of YOLO. We all have something powerful to share and what is meant for you will not pass you. So, let Salem work the magick it has to make magical memories and in the wise words of Julie Kiernan, "You are enough".
Congratulations Erin!๐
"Coming to SSU after a community college was great for me as I had a chance to really focus on theatre and have a real sense of independence being away from home. I loved having theatre all day every day, learning new skills, and to have a new respect and appreciation for things previously unknown to me.
I finished school back in December and have been working. Iโm currently in my gap year as Iโve settled into an apartment. I plan on looking for jobs within this field come summertime and have the hopes to start somewhere by the end of 2022 and go back to school for my MFA the following year.
I think itโs important to remember you can do whatever you want. Create your own and live life on your terms. Itโs about trusting the process and having the patience to execute it."
Congratulations Lisa!๐
"My time at Salem State has taught me the need and tools to trust my craft and how to ADAPT! I learned to be in the moment and โyes and!โ not only in my acting but as a person. I will always cherish the balance of technical craft challenges and critiques with the real human lessons and memories extended to us by our lovely teachers. Iโm incredibly thankful to all my peers throughout my time here who saw my artistry and shaped/pushed it to something I will hold dear forever. I hope any underclassmen reading this takes the risk to show this community that vulnerable/messy passion project you want to work. I promise itโs worth it!
After graduation, Iโm headed to Shecago (Chicago) to see what different artistries I expand this education to and explore the theatre scene!! Let me know if you ever want to visit, a Vikโs always got a friend in me๐ฝ๐ฝ ๐๐"
Congratulations Riley! ๐
โMy time here with the SSU Theater Department has been a wonderful journey. I have learned and grown from the guidance of my professors and peers. Thank you so much to everyone in the Theater Department for welcoming me in with open arms, I will miss you all!
My plan after graduation is to go to grad school (still unsure where) to study Marriage and Family Counseling or Addiction Counseling.โ
Congratulations Luna!๐
"I have enjoyed my time in the theater department! I have learned so much from excellent teachers. I appreciate how the theater here is education-based and that they stress learning how each role in the theater world has an important part to play. I am excited to share all that I have learned with the future theater students I teach!
After Graduation, I will be an Au Pair in Spain during the summer. Once I come back I hope to teach theater to kids wherever I can!"
Congratulations Rachael!๐
