Theatre Majors can earn credit by working on Salem State Theatre Department productions that are directly supervised by Theatre Department faculty and staff. (Theatre work outside of SSU is not eligible for TPP credit.) Your faculty/staff supervisor will keep track of the hours you work in your TPP positions(s), but you need to make sure you are signed up for the Theatre Participation course in order to receive academic credit. The Theatre Participation courses are THE91- THE98, and you'll sign up for them in sequential order, one for each semester you are a Theatre Major at SSU. Please contact Ashley at aotoole@salemstate.edu with any questions.
THE91-THE98 are 0.5 non-degree credit courses that are graded as Pass/Fail. These courses will not show up on your class schedule calendar in Navigator because they don't have a specific meeting time assigned to them- every production position will have a different schedule. You will sign up for TPP positions, get your schedule from your supervisor, work on those jobs throughout the semester, and then you will receive your grade during finals week. Please contact Ashley at aotoole@salemstate.edu with any questions.
Please search for your Student ID Number in the left column to see your total TPP for the Fall 2025 semester (there are multiple pages).
Please note:
1. All full-time Theatre majors (taking 12.0 credits or more) are required to work at least 50 hours on one or more Theatre Department productions, supervised by Theatre Department faculty or staff, in order to pass their Theatre Participation requirement for THE91-THE98.
2. Punctuality is fundamental to all TPP positions. Unexcused absences and tardiness impact total TPP for all positions.
3. If you have questions about the TPP you have received for a production position, please contact your faculty or staff supervisor.
4. TPP for each production is posted after the production closes and the faculty/staff submit TPP total. TPP for Workshop will be posted when grades are posted at the end of the semester.
Students can sign up for TPP positions at the TPP Job Fairs, which are held each fall and spring semester during the first week of classes. Some positions which require previous experience/a bigger time commitment are considered "Major TPP Positions." Please refer to the chart below for how to apply for each different position. (Information on how to apply for Major TPP Positions is posted below.)
