Pet of the Week!

Does your pet deserve the coveted Pet of the Week title?

Of course they do!

To submit your pet for Pet of the Week, just email a picture of your pet, their name, and some fun facts about them to apreston@salemstate.edu and we'll post our featured pet every Friday, September-May! Submissions are open to anyone in the Salem State Community.

Meet Shadow!

Theatre Department Pet of the Week 9/13/24

Theatre major Elsa Vig's boy has a funny (smokerish/scratchy) meow and he loves human food (see the photo of him trying to get the food off the counter)! He just turned 9 years old and Elsa has had him since he was a kitten.

What a sweet boy! We'd walk under a ladder on Friday the 13th to pet you, Shadow.

Meet Cooper and Annie!

Theatre Department Pets of the Week 9/23/2022

Theatre minor Bassett is lucky enough to have two ADORABLE Beaglier puppies, Cooper and Annie. They are only a year old and are the funniest and cuddliest puppies they've ever met! Cooper, the bigger of the two, loves to lay in the sun. Annie, the smaller of the two, loves to steal people's seats on the couch. Both puppies like going for walks and chasing birds.  While Bassett is at school, they get to see them over FaceTime and in many pictures from their parents!

What's better than one cute pup? DEFINITELY two cute pups! 😍😍

Congratulations Cooper and Annie! 🏆

Meet Killian (and Stoli)!

Theatre Department Pets of the Week 9/16/2022

Theatre major Destany Foley's horse, Killian, is named after George Killian's Irish Red Lager because of her red/chestnut coloring. She loves to "smile" (fun horse fact from Destany: it's actually called "flehmen" and it's a way of enhancing their smell!) When they got got her, Destany's family thought she was a boy due to her bulky build. They thought there was a typo in the ad!

You're beautiful, Killian! Maybe she’s barn with it…Maybe it’s neighbelline 🐴

BONUS PET OF THE WEEK: Destany also included a few photos of Stoli the Goat! "Because she's ridiculous and who doesn't want to enjoy some funny pictures of goats on a Friday afternoon??" 😆

Congratulations Killian and Stoli! 🏆

Meet Smokey!

Theatre Department Pet of the Week 9/9/2022

Theatre major Charlie Sullivan's new puppy Smokey is a 10-month old black lab mix who LOVES digging, chasing and eating bugs, pressing his nose into things and taking BIG sniffs, and sitting like a frog! He's also a vivid dreamer, and often barks and twitches in his sleep. Follow your dreams, Smokey-- we believe in you!

Congratulations Smokey! 🏆

Meet Snowball!

Theatre Department Pet of the Week 11/6/2020

Snowball is a three-month-old Lhasa apso. Theatre student Diane Thai writes that Snowball is shy, but once he gets to know you he’s jumping all over the place. He likes standing on people's feet (he lovesss toes!) and loves putting his paws on anyone’s hand to lay on it. He’s such a little baby and loves hiding.  His best friend is a cat-- he’s the sweetest little thing!

Congratulations Snowball! 🏆

Meet Weebee!

Theatre Department Pet of the Week 10/30/2020

In honor of Halloween, we're proud to feature another beautiful black cat this month! Theatre student Abigale Feinstein writes, "Weebee (short for Wee Beastie!) is a 12 year old short hair black cat who resides on Cape Cod with my family. We got her around a year ago when my dad's friend passed unexpectedly. (Her old dad was very Irish so that explains her name a little bit more.) She loves to lounge in the sun and then spread out in the shade when she gets too hot. She’s not very coordinated and can have a hard time getting onto the couch, so she will just start screaming when she wants us to pick her up and help her. She has a hard time warming up to people but once she does she is the sweetest thing in the whole world!! She likes boxes, the Food Network and Hallmark Channel, and Friskies Lil Soups. She is such a weird cat but completes our family, we are so lucky to have her!"

Congratulations Weebee! 🏆

Meet Shadow!

Theatre Department Pet of the Week 10/23/2020

Meet Shadow!

Here in Salem, we're always big fans of black cats, but we wanted to share the love this Halloween season with SSU Theatre alumna Vanessa Loret and her sweet boy, Shadow. Shadow, who is very polite, chitters as a "bless you" every time you sneeze. He loves belly scratches and enjoys playing hide and seek (but if you’re “missing” for too long he meows “herroooooww” until you come to him!) He also has excellent manners, and will sit with you at the table while you’re eating like a good boi!

Congratulations Shadow! 🏆

Meet JoeJoe!

Theatre Department Pet of the Week 10/9/2020

Jack is SSU Theatre student Rachael Young's 9-year-old Havanese and King Charles/Cavalier mix!  Rachael writes, "JoeJoe was born on  Valentine's day, the day after my mom's birthday! So, I call him my "valentine Joe!" When we first got him, he was a just few months old. I wanted to name him Oreo because of his black and white fur. Then my parents and I decided on JoeJoe, after Trader Joe's brand cookies because we ate a lot of them at the time!

I love spending time with JoeJoe-- he is the sweetest, friendliest dog you will ever meet! JoeJoe loves his belly rubs; we can't get through a day without giving him a lot of belly rubs! Every time you walk over to him, he'll roll over for you to rub his belly. He will also lie on top of the couch cushion behind you like a pillow.

JoeJoe unfortunately has quite the nose for chocolate! He has eaten a lot of chocolate in his time, from cake to Easter candy, and has lived to tell the tale!  He can also jump onto the kitchen or dining room table if there are chairs for him to jump from! So, we must make sure we push in our chairs during a meal if we leave the table for any reason because he will jump up and our food will be gone! JoeJoe and I are both foodies!

Congratulations JoeJoe!🏆

Meet Opus and Trixie!

Theatre Department Pets of the Week 10/2/2020

Opus and Trixie, basset pups who are clearly loving life with owner, Salem State University Registrar Megan Miller, are this week's Pets of the Week! Fun facts from Megan about Opus and Trixie:

• Both of these babies were bottle fed because their mother had no milk, but they are making up for it by eating everything in sight!
• Opus is the strong silent type, but it's all a facade because he's really afraid of change and loud noises... it is up to his sister Trixie to keep him from taking himself too seriously.
• Our cat Juno must supervise their walks at all time, sometimes joined by her sister Piper... I think our neighbors laugh at the caravan of puppies and cat as we walk around the neighborhood.
• They treat every other dog as a celebrity and they act like star-struck autograph seekers around them!

Congratulations Opus and Trixie!🏆🏆

Meet Bodhi Rose!

Theatre Department Pet of the Week 9/25/2020

Bodhi is a four-year-old Toy Pomeranian, an Aquarius, and a new transfer by proxy to the Salem State Theatre Department! Catch her in a guest-starring role this evening in the First Year Lab performance with her owner, Theatre student Jayanne Glynn!

Meet Jack!

Theatre Department Pet of the Week 9/11/2020

Jack is SSU Theatre student Caiden Bistany's 6 year old Beagle Samoyed mix! Caiden writes, "We adopted Jack when he was six months old from a shelter in Salem, NH where he was born to his mom Jellybean. Every year the shelter we got him from has a contest for the alumni pets to be in their calendar. Jack has been in three calendars so far and a fourth one coming up! (He’s so pretty, of course he’s a little model.)"

"Being at school, I miss him very much and my dad sends me daily pictures of Jack just laying in bed because he misses me so much. He’s a very friendly dog and he loves his people so much."

"He’s very smart and he learned how to open my bedroom door so he can always come see me even if the door is closed. He’s a bit needy, but that’s okay-- me and my family are always glad to give him attention. Also, his birthday is April 17th so he’s an Aries!"

Congratulations Jack! 🏆

Meet Phoebe!

Theatre Department Pet of the Week 9/4/2020

Phoebe is an English Bulldog who LOVES her dad and mom, Salem State Theatre professor Bryn Boice! They got Phoebe on April 6th, and were happy that they'd have some time to properly potty train her. Cut to five months later--they have never left her alone for more than a few minutes. Mom starting school this week was very confusing for her!

Phoebe hates walks; they still have to carry her past a few houses to get her going, which is getting more difficult as she reaches 40lbs! She does LOVE to go into the little backyard and play keep-away with Mom. She once was able to keep away two bones and one ball--all in her mouth--at the same time. A very talented lass!

She sleeps on dad's neck every night, and naps on top of mom's feet every day. She snores loudly. Very loudly. Her favorite toy is a stuffed Cow named Cow-y. She also loves Jumbo Bully Sticks. She likes to sigh and harumph, which we attribute to mom and dad being drama kids and successfully passing it down.

Congratulations Phoebe! 🏆
