This subject gives students the opportunity to develop their leadership skills in a sports based setting. During theory sessions, students will research a range of different leadership styles and how they can be used by a coach or leader to get the best out of their team. They will learn about the fundamental motor skills that underpin all skill development and apply this knowledge by planning a focused coaching lesson both with their peers and younger members of the College community. There will be a major focus on group work and communicating effectively as well as other traits that are required of a good leader. Students will investigate contemporary coaches and analyse their styles of coaching and how effective they have been in their coaching careers. As part of the unit, students will participate in games, learn the rules and play sports with a focus on coaching.
