If the outdoors is for you, then this is the elective to study. You will learn all the skills required to camp and hike in the great outdoors. Learning to set up a tent, cooking on a lightweight stove, minimal impact camping as well as navigational and map reading are just some of the skills that will be covered in this course. Initiative games and activities will help you develop your problem solving, as well as leadership and team building skills. This subject also has a focus on conservation and community service and in the past we have worked with local landcare groups and Kyabram Fauna Park to help regenerate habitat for flora and fauna.
There are two outdoor experiences that are a compulsory component of the elective. You will need to supply your own food and personal items for these trips. We will plan together as a group the itinerary for the adventurous experiences. In past years we have been to Melville Caves, Kooyoora State Park (near Inglewood) for a one night navigational and hiking experience whilst the other experience has been a one night canoeing adventure to Lake Nagambie.
