In Woodwork Module 1, you will be expanding on the skills in woodworking which you have previously learned in Year 7 or 8. You will work from a basic design of a Hall Table to make. You will be able to alter that basic design to suit your own personal needs. The table is a popular design and you are able to add your own flair to it and the completed product will be an attractive personal addition to your home.
You will be able to alter the basic plan by making the following personal adjustments.
1 Use your own choice of stains.
2 Or paint your table in one of or several different colours.
3 Alter the dimensions and shape of the table.
During the course, you will learn the following new skills.
1 Using a hand routing machine.
4 Using a planning machine.
We will also be completing some research into sustainability and timer use, including the effects of using old growth (original) timber and plantation (especially grown) timber.
A very important aspect of the course is covering components of Occupational Health and Safety and practising safety at all times. You have the ability to work with partners or individually to suit your personal needs and if there is enough time at the end of the semester, you may be able to complete an additional product of your own design.
