One Last Shot follows a shy introverted Alex as he faces his biggest fear, human interaction at a party with his peers. This party isn’t just any party, it’s their graduation party and Alex's last chance to finally build up the courage to speak to the girl of his dreams, Molly. As if the fates were at work, the two get paired together in a beer pong tournament and throughout begin to grow closer, with the Jocks also taking a liking to this ‘new’ Alex. As the liquid courage continues to influence his behavior he must make a decision, continue the fake tough guy image or, show Molly the real Alex.
The tale of Alex and Molly is a genuine human story exploring the universal theme of love. Boy meets girl is something that audiences to a global extent can relate to and find themselves in.
This is what attracted me to One Last Shot. My approach and vision to telling this story was to find a characters that could embody and represent people who have felt like outsiders at social events and who may even feel like outliers compared to others around them in everyday life.
I wanted to present a strong message that it is okay to be who you are and stay true to your nature. Being able to be yourself 100% of the time takes courage and bravery as you are putting yourself in a vulnerable position, but this is what I respect about the protagonist. He goes about his night thinking he doesn’t fit in, which he doesn’t, but people begin to realise and understand that Alex is indeed different as he doesn’t have these massive walls protecting him or shielding him from judgement. Specially for Molly the love interest in the film, this aspect of his personality is what makes her gravitate to him. She can so much of herself in him, but at the same time is the opposite. She puts on a tough face where ever she goes and distances her from people in order to protect herself from judgment.
