Part A: Get the Sheet Music into PlayScore 2
Before you can adapt music, you need it in a digital format you can edit. PlayScore 2 allows you to turn paper sheet music or PDFs into editable notation quickly, saving hours of manual entry.
Please note: This is an app that works on your phone, so if you prefer to work on flat.io on your computer like i do...you need to know how to share between your phone and device. I use google drive or airdrop my files created in playscore2 to my laptop.
Open PlayScore 2 and start a new document.
Choose the camera / scan option.
Make sure the page is:
Flat (no page curl)
Well lit (no shadows or glare)
Fully in frame
Take the photo.
If the piece has multiple pages, continue scanning and add each page to the same document so it exports as one complete score.
Tip: If the scan looks messy, rescan that page with better lighting or a straighter angle. Clean input saves cleanup time later.
If you take a photo of the music with your camera with the app closed, you can still import it easily. Click on the camera and in the bottom right corner click the button "photos" this will access your photos on your phone.
If you already have a scanned PDF, this is usually quicker and more accurate than using the camera.
Open the PDF on your device (Files app, email, Drive, etc.).
Tap the Share button.
Select Open in PlayScore 2 or Copy to PlayScore 2.
Let PlayScore process the document.
The PDF will open as a new score inside PlayScore, ready to check and export.
Before moving on:
Tap Play and listen briefly.
Watch for obvious issues like:
Wrong key or time signature
Missing rests
Rhythm errors in busy sections
You do not need perfection here — just make sure the score is usable before exporting.
