Once your music is in PlayScore 2, the next step is exporting it in a format that allows full editing in notation software.
For adapting parts, MusicXML is strongly recommended over MIDI because it preserves notation details like rhythms, measures, and layout.
Open your score in PlayScore 2.
Go to the playback screen for the document.
Check your settings are correct (see box below)
Tap the Export icon.
Select Export as MusicXML.
Save the file to your device (Files app, Drive, email, etc.). OR Airdrop it straight to your computer
Your file will be saved as .xml or .mxl.
In Settings on Playscore, select the song you scanned in.
Click on the setting clog
Make sure the following are toggled on
Play Repeats
Lyrics, text, D.S./D.C.
and under troubleshooting - error correction
MusicXML preserves:
Rhythms
Measures
Key and time signatures
Multiple staves and parts
MIDI often loses notation detail and requires much more cleanup later. If your goal is editing notation, always choose MusicXML.
If export options appear greyed out, ensure the document has fully processed.
For large or complex scores, re-open the document and try exporting again.
Expect to do a brief cleanup after import — all scanning tools require some correction.
Once exported, your MusicXML file is ready to be imported into notation software like Flat for adaptation
