Artist research assignment

For this assignment we were instructed to find a ceramic artist and research about their life and their style. Below, I attached the the paragraphs I wrote about my chosen artist, and images of his work.

For my research paper, I chose artist Benjamin Lambert, who started his career locally in the town of Greene, Maine on the Androscoggin River. His ceramic sculptures utilize figures and animals. They express observations of the interaction between humans and the natural environment. Benjamin Lambert is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor of Art and Design at Alma College in Alma, Michigan. He grew up in the small, rural town of Greene, Maine. In 2008 he received a B.F.A. with a concentration in ceramics from the University of Southern Maine. He took a four-year break from academia and maintained an active studio practice in Portland, Maine. He completed an MFA in Ceramics and Sculpture at the Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 2015. From what I can see from his work I would say that Ben incorporates a pinch pot method in a lot of his work due to the fact that he’s making sculptures of heads. I chose to research this artist because I myself am very tied to nature and to see his detailed sculptures of animals intrigues me. I also like the fact that this artist grew up locally and many of his inspirations are based on the wilderness of Maine.
