Industrial Tech Electives

Basics of Industrial Technology (TechEd)

Grades 9-10

1 Semester

This course will introduce students to a variety of hands-on skills.  We will cover basic woodworking, minor construction, house plans, and shop safety. A majority of time will be spent doing hands-on projects around the school building and in the shop.  Class numbers will be limited to ensure safety.

Woodworking

Grades 9-12

1 Semester

This is a class provides the fundamentals of woodworking. We will cover how to use all machines and project construction. A major project is required. Class size will be limited to ensure safety. Students may be required to pay a fee for supplies for the project they choose. Must successfully complete TechEd before registering for this class.

Computer Drawing & Design (CAD)

Grades 9-12

1 Semester

Do you want to design your own custom products? This class will use various software programs and the latest technologies. Students will learn the commands and the capabilities of the software to create graphics, drawings and files that can be used to create products in the Digital Fabrication Lab. Students will also be able to design models for parts and architecture. This course is required before you can take Digital Fabrication.

Digital Fabrication (Fab-Lab)

Grades 9-12

1 Semester

This is a class where the student will be able to design and build almost anything using digital engineering and manufacturing processes. Using the skills you gained in Computer Drawing, you will be able to produce custom objects using the Laser Cutter/Engraver, 3-D Printers and Modella Model Signmaker. You will also learn the basics of CNC machining and how to turn a 3-D drawing into a machined 3-D product using the CNC Milling machine, the CNC Plasma Cutter, and the CNC Router. Must successfully complete CAD before enrolling. Students will be required to pay a fee at the beginning of the semester to cover the costs of the materials.

Principles of Construction

Grades 11-12

1 Semester

This class provides an overview to the various fields of architecture and construction, including career opportunities in the fields. Students will be introduced to the safe use of hand tools and power tools and the care and maintenance of these tools. They will learn to provide material and time estimates for projects and interpret architectural and engineering working drawings and specifications used in construction.  Students will be given the opportunity to design and construct a small shed. Must successfully complete Woodworking before registering for this class.

Welding

Grades 11-12

1 Semester

This is a class for students who enjoy working on projects, hands-on activities, and working with metal. Students will learn about two main welding processes used in the industry including: wire feed welding, arc welding, and metal fabrication. Students will have the opportunity to build a welding project of their choice after mastering the basics of welding

Basic Electricity & Electronics

Grades 11-12

1 Semester

This course will teach the basic concepts of electricity and electronics to include, but not limited to  the following topics:

electrical safety, basic electrical circuits, Ohm’s Law, basic residential wiring and electrical codes. We will use test equipment and electrical tools in our study of electronic components, basic digital electronics, and the numbering systems used in electronics. Projects may include but are not limited to: wiring residential lighting and power circuits, troubleshooting electrical problems, soldering skills, construction of various electronic kits, and troubleshooting analog digital circuits.
