Ag Electives

Crops and Soils

Grades 9-12

1 Semester


The course will give you a basic introduction of agricultural crop production. We will discuss tillage practices, seed populations, GMO’s, yield/profitability, crop rotation, integrated pest management, harvesting, herbicide usage, fertilizer needs, and soils judging. Students will be able to identify and explain modern cropping practices and possible alternative methods. Students that are enrolled in this class can maintain their FFA Membership in the Red Rock Central FFA Chapter.


Livestock Production

Grades 9-12

1 Semester

If you choose to take this class, you will be learning about the basic names, digestion, nutrition, reproduction, judging, marketing, and production practices of different livestock species including: cattle, swine, sheep, and goats. Livestock Production will be filled with hands-on activities including labs. If students receive higher than an 80%, they will earn college credit. Students that are enrolled in this class can maintain their FFA Membership in the Red Rock Central FFA Chapter.

Agriculture Business

Grades 9-12

1 Semester


By choosing this class, you will be able to have an in-depth study about creating small businesses, record keeping, taxes, and agricultural economics. We will also discuss taxes, commodities, and marketing found in the world of agriculture.  Students that are enrolled in this class can maintain their FFA Membership in the Red Rock Central FFA Chapter.

Small Animal Science 

Grades 9-12

1 Semester

Students will be able to learn about the following areas of study: careers with small animals, animal rights and welfare regarding small critters. This course will also cover the basics about dogs, cats, rabbits, fish, guinea pigs, hamsters, and small amphibians. This will be a fast paced filled with hands-on activities to help you learn about topics that could affect everyone if they plan to be pet owners in the future. Students can maintain their FFA membership with this class and work towards a career in small animal care.

Food Science

Grades 10-12

1 Semester


We all need to eat food everyday so it is important to learn how to care for it and prepare it. Students will learn about how to properly read a food label and understand what nutrients are found within food products. Other topics include: food science principles, measuring ingredients, meal planning, as well as professional and contemporary issues in the food industry.  Students that are enrolled in this class can maintain their FFA Membership in the Red Rock Central FFA Chapter.

Flying Sky High Drones

Grades 11-12

1 Semester


In this course, students will learn different regulations and variables that affect flight of drones. Students will learn about drone operation regulations, how weather affects flight, airport operations, flight at night, etc. By the end of this course, it is our goal that students will be able to take and pass the Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate Exam. Students that are enrolled in this class can maintain their FFA Membership in the Red Rock Central FFA Chapter. 

Ag Independent Study

Grades 11-12

1 Semester


This course focuses on developing leadership and individual skills. Students can use this time to work on an individual SAE project or complete FFA Chapter Officer duties. Students must have a plan for how they will use their time and present the idea to the FFA Advisor for approval before registering.  Students that are enrolled in this class can maintain their FFA Membership in the Red Rock Central FFA Chapter. Must have instructor approval to register

Ag Work Experience

Grades 11-12

1 Semester


In this course you will learn to apply a decision making process to real work situations. This work based learning program provides you with an opportunity to learn about working and what employers really expect from their employers. You will be able to earn credit for working/job shadowing during the school day. If this class is taken before 6th hours, the student must return to school for the remainder of the school day. All work environments must be legitimate educational experiences. Must have instructor approval to register

Veterinary Science

Grades 9-12

1 Semester

In this course, students will learn about the basics and careers in the veterinary field. This hands-on class will allow students to learn about care, identification, diseases, needs and other important aspects of owning both livestock and small animals. Hands-on activities include giving injections to animals, suturing wounds on animals, and learning about the different parts of an animal both inside and outside. Students that are enrolled in this class can maintain their FFA Membership in the Red Rock Central FFA Chapter.

Wildlife and Fisheries

Grades 10-12

1 Semester

This course will be all about the wildlife that we have in the great state of Minnesota. It will be an introduction to the management of wildlife and fish populations, their different habitats, and their human users. This course is directed towards the presentation of general concepts that are integral to understanding the wildlife and fisheries.  Students that are enrolled in this class can maintain their FFA Membership in the Red Rock Central FFA Chapter.

Horticulture

Grades 9-12

1 Semester

In Horticulture, you will be able to experience many different fields and careers related to the area of Horticulture. Students will perform numerous “hands-on” plant activities as well as identify plants utilized in the industry. Students will learn about factors affecting plant growth including: light, temperature, soils nutrients, rooting medium, and humidity. Students that are enrolled in this class can maintain their FFA Membership in the Red Rock Central FFA Chapter.
