Connecting Computers

Lesson 1 - How to log on!

For our first computing lesson, we learned what all the different parts of a computer are. We also learned how to use the keyboard to log onto our chromebooks and we talked about rules that we should follow when using the chromebooks.

Lesson 2 - How does a digital device work?

For our second lesson, we learned how a digital device works. It needs an input to start a program (process) which then makes an output. We sorted different devices into digital and not digital. Did you know a lamp is not a digital device? Even though you push a button, it is connect with a circuit, not a program.

Lesson 3 - How do digital devices help us?

In this lesson, we talked about digital devices and non-digital devices and compared them. For example, do you prefer to draw on paper or the computer? The computer is good because you can easily undo any mistakes, however, you can use lots of different materials to draw on paper! We also thought about all the different ways you can use a digital device. You can use a smartphone to contact people but you can also take photos and use other apps!

Lesson 4 - How am I connected?

For this lesson, we talked about what connection really is. We then pretended we were all computers and we had to send messages to other computers. It was tricky because we had to stay in our seat and we could only hold one message at a time! But then, some of us became switches and they passed the messages for us, this was much easier!
