Värmdö Archipelago Rotary Club has been pursuing a long-term environmental commitment to the Baltic Sea for several years and is now planning to create wetlands on Värmdö to reduce eutrophication, strengthen biodiversity and increase knowledge about the importance of wetlands.
The project is run by the Värmdö Archipelago Rotary Club and co-financed by Rotary Districts and clubs in all the eight BASRAN countries around the Baltic Sea, which means Värmdö Skärgård Rotary Club's district D2405, D1410 (Åland/Finland - the international partner), D1420 (in Finland/Estonia), D1462 (Lithuania), D1461 and D1470 (in Denmark), D1880, D1890, D1940 and Stralsund Rotary Club (in Germany), D2231 (in Poland), D2355 (Stockholm-Uppland/Sweden), D2365 (western Sweden), D2395 (southern Sweden) and Värmdö Archipelago Rotary Club as well as The Rotary Foundation (TRF).
Total funding amounts to 62,800 USD.
The fact is that this is the first Global Grants project, which is executed in Scandinavia. During the webinar you will have the chance to learn more about both "Wetlands and Global Grants".

Crown Princess Victoria participated in
BASRAN's webinar "Wetlands and the Baltic Sea Environment" in March 2022.
The Crown Princess is extremely committed to the Baltic Sea environment and gave a very nice speech to us Rotary members. She then urged Rotary clubs to take the initiative to create or restore wetlands by contacting local landowners.
Värmdö Archipelago Rotary Club took note of this.
See the Crown Princess's speech here (in English).
