Professional learning
In 2018 the Student Agency PLLT ran a staff development session on how student agency could work at Rooty Hill High School. The aim of the professional learning was to build on existing work in capability based assessment and create opportunities for students to be active agents of their own learning. The twilight session was registered as training at highly accomplished level and delivered in our 2018 Term 2 twilight professional learning.
Student Agency Twilight Session - Course Summary
In the 3 hours allocated to this professional learning, teachers will use their knowledge of capabilities and their assessment practices to work with colleagues in faculty and develop strategies and resources to prepare students to write their own academic report comments using an increased understanding of capabilities, progress and achievement.
This shift in the school’s reporting practice is underpinned by the DoE Future Frontiers Analytical report, The Melbourne Declaration and the 2018 Gonski 2.0 report Priority Two on ‘Equip every student to be a Creative, Connected and Engaged learner in a rapidly changing world’.
These policy reports focus on the skills, dispositions and domain specific knowledge of how successful students learn. They underpin the shift of moving students towards agency and self-efficacy. At the core of this is to shift our student reporting practices to provide students with opportunities to be meaningful partners in their learning.
