Mrs. Payne graduated in 2011 attending the Leland campus. She has now returned to Classical Charter Schools of Leland as the Computer Teacher where her son also attends Kindergarten.
Background
After graduating from The Roger Bacon Academy, I attended Brunswick Early College. I graduated in 2014 with an Associate of Arts Degree and received numerous scholarships to attend a 4-year university.
What are you doing now?
I now work at the Classical Charter Schools of Leland. Yes, that's right, I am back where it all began. Upon graduating High School in 2014, I married that same year. A couple of years later, my husband and I welcomed our first child. He is now a Kindergarten student at CCS-Leland. Since then, we have welcomed another child to our family. I wear many hats, and my favorite is wife and mother. My title at school, however, is Computer Teacher. That means I get to work every day teaching your children from grades Kindergarten through 8th. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time teaching at CCS-Leland and have decided to continue my education to receive my teaching licensure.
How did your time at the Roger Bacon Academy prepare you for your endeavors?
My time at RBA is where I found such a love for learning. I strived to be the best I could be, and I enjoyed being challenged in my scholastics. My teachers pushed me and knew I had more to offer than even I knew. My peers encouraged each other instead of tearing each other down over someone else's successes or failures. Looking back now, the environment was safe and so many of the lessons I have learned in life started at RBA.
How has your Roger Bacon Academy education shaped who you are as a person and in your career?
Being a student at The Roger Bacon Academy is some of my most memorable and fondest memories. I came to a new school, moving states away from everything I knew, at such an impressionable age. Arriving here, things were immediately different and I worked diligently to make straight A’s all while being a part of The Roger Bacon Vikings Cheer Team. I was part of the first RBA Archery Team and became Captain. I still shoot a bow today. I was also Class President in 8th Grade and I gave the graduation speeches alongside our Valedictorian. I made friendships that have lasted to this day. My teachers during this time made a huge impact on my life. They taught me more than the specifics of education; they taught me work ethic, how to get along with my neighbor, the importance of relationships, and how to handle life challenges. Specifically, Mrs. Beamer (science), Mr. Moseley (history), Mrs. LaFave (cheer/resource), Mr. Beamer (archery), and Mrs. Lopez (Spanish). These are people I remember encouraging me, cheering me on, and sowing seeds for my future. Each one played an important role in my life. I still maintain relationships with some of these people today and I am forever grateful for all they taught me. Now, I am in the same role they once were. I hope to be able to teach my students all that these teachers once taught me. I aspire, as a teacher, to be remembered by one of my students the same way I remember and value mine.
