Ms. Bowen graduated from Columbus Charter School, now Classical Charter Schools of Whiteville, in 2015. She has now returned as a full-time substitute for CCS-Whiteville.
Background
While I was a student at CCS-Whiteville, I was the Lead Soprano in Show Choir and was a member on the History Bowl Team. I also raced in FASTAR, and then in middle school, I was a member of the Pit Crew.
After I graduated from CCS-Whiteville, I went to Columbus Career and College Academy and then I was homeschooled for my last two years of high school. My mother has been a CCS-Whiteville teacher for 12 years and is an important key as to why I want to be a teacher.
What are you doing now?
I am currently a full-time employee at Classical Charter Schools of Whiteville. I am also enrolled at Southeastern Community College and plan to transfer to the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
How did your time at The Roger Bacon Academy prepare you for your endeavors?
My time at RBA taught me the importance of Direct Instruction which has prepared me for school and life. It keeps students engaged and excited to learn. I think Direct Instruction should be in every school because it honestly makes a difference and greatly effects children's learning.
How has your Roger Bacon Academy education shaped who you are as a person and in your career?
My RBA education has played a big role in who I am. My experience on the History Bowl team has inspired me to be a History teacher after school. At RBA, the teachers and staff really care about you, not just academically, but in every aspect of life. Some important teachers in my years at CCS-Whiteville are Linda Jordan, Amanda Kinlaw, Cristy Prince, Dawn Ivey, Michelle Hammond, Laura Faulk, and my mother, Crystal Bowen.
