Roding Valley High School is very much devoted to improving the digital skills of our students and using technology to enhance Teaching & Learning to benefit all types of learning; independent, collaborative, creative, home, and safe learning.
Digital Technology has become firmly embedded as a core part of delivering our curriculum and plays a significant role in preparing students for life outside of school. Given that exams are moving to online assessments in the next few years, it is essential that students develop the skills that will allow them to be not disadvantaged by being this.
We have embedded a clear digital strategy that involves the utilisation of technology in our classrooms to enhance blended learning and assessment, enabling teachers to give feedback in innovative and creative ways. This however depends on students having access to their own devices that they can also use in school on a daily basis.

What is a Chromebook?
A Chromebook is a kind of laptop computer, running Google Chrome as its operating system. The device is used primarily while connected to the Internet, with most applications and data residing in "the cloud". Chromebooks differ from a normal laptop in that a robust ‘device management system’ allows for strict monitoring of use, internet filtering and other vital e-Safety restrictions whilst in school.
Why do we use this Chromebook Purchase Programme?
● Gives an opportunity for students to exploit all of the wonderful online tools and resources available to support their learning without having to outright purchase a device at start

● We can manage the devices and provide the best levels of eSafety for our students.
● The battery of the devices lasts a full school day.
● Any lost or damaged device are changed on the same day
● Unlimited Comprehensive insurance and warranty with zero excess for the full 30 month term
The scheme is managed via Freedomtech. The detail of the scheme is in the attached flyer. All orders will be done via their portal. They also make devices available on-site that students use in the event that they lose or damage their own device.
Whilst there is no obligation to purchase a Chromebook through Freedomtech, we highly recommend that you do. We feel that your child will benefit from the educational enhancements it brings through the integration of school and home learning. If financing this device is a concern, we will also have plenty of options & support on offer to support families in our school community,
We only have a limited number of devices in school that are available to use when students do not have their own device. We have rather invested heavily in the infrastructure to support these devices and will therefore not be replacing of our own devices that will become obsolete
