RVHS has developed its own successful Teaching and Learning framework; our ACED Framework. This framework is used as a basis for all of our lessons and enables our teachers to deliver high quality teaching that engages all types of learners at all different levels.

Assessment: We use Assessment for Learning tools to assess learning during every lesson. From mini whiteboards, Retrieval quizzes and RAG cards- our students will be able to show our teachers how much they have learnt.

Creativity: We give opportunities for students to apply their learning in their own way. Our students should 'think outside of the box' and ask those big questions! We also support our students to make use of tried and tested RVHS revision strategies.

Engagement: High quality teaching means that our students are focused and completely involved with the lesson. Every lesson a student will be selected to be the Teaching & Learning Ambassador. Our PAL (Positive action for learning) behaviour system and ARE (Aspiration, Respect & Endeavour) reward system ensure Engagement for all to get as much out of each lesson as possible.

aDaptive Teaching: We Teach to the Top and scaffold up to support those that need it. Every student should feel sufficiently stretched but also supported on the way there.

Reading & Writing Skills

At RVHS, we promote the love of reading and writing through our DEAR time ( DROP EVERYTHING & WRITE) and DEAW time. (DROP AND EVERYTHING AND WRITE) All students must bring a reading book to school everyday to participate in these schemes!

We also have a new WORD OF THE WEEK each week for our students to learn and engage with; alongside a STAR WRITER AWARD which we celebrate bi-weekly in the bulletin.

Home Learning

At RVHS, we use Google Classroom to assign, create and give feedback on Home learning tasks. Every subject has its own Google Classroom that your son/daughter will belong to when starting in Year 7. Their teachers will then post assignments onto Google Classroom and utilise subject YouTube channels/ Teacher explanation videos to support our tasks.

Students then 'submit' their assignments via Google Classroom and where appropriate, teachers can comment and give feedback- in some cases, this feedback is voice recorded!

We also make use of 'flipped learning' regularly; where students are set assignments to prepare for the following lesson. This allows learning to progress quickly and for the teacher to focus on more difficult skills during the lesson.

We also strongly encourage our students to complete their Home learning via Google functions; Google docs, Google slides etc. These Google tools fit perfectly with Google classroom & enable teachers to be able to comment directly and give feedback on their work.

Teaching and Learning Ambassadors

In all lessons at RVHS, your son/daughter will have the chance to be one of our Teaching & Learning ambassadors. Each lesson, the teacher will nominate a student to the the lesson ambassador. It's the ambassador's job to tell any visitor to the lesson what their learning, show their work and speak on behalf of the class. The ambassador will also be called upon to help and support other students where needed.

Extra-curricular Activities and Enrichment

At Roding Valley High School, we offer a wide variety of extra-curricular and enrichment activities for all of our students to participate in. These activities take place before school, at lunchtime and after school. Some of the activities include:

There are a whole range of extra-curricular and enrichment activities for our students to participate in. Our sport facilities are first class which include two new 3G pitches.
