Chromebooks

Roding Valley High School is devoted to improving the digital skills of our students and using technology to enhance Teaching & Learning to benefit all types of learning; independent, collaborative, creative, home, and safe learning.

Digital Technology has become firmly embedded as a core part of delivering our curriculum and plays a significant role in preparing students for life outside of school, as well as the Digitalised examinations in the next few years.

The GCSE Exam boards are also moving towards digital examinations for Year 11 students across a variety of subjects from 2025, including Core subjects by 2030. We feel that it is vital that students are comfortable with extended typing and digital learning from the start of their secondary education so that they can access the Digitalised assessments by Year 11 and earlier for their KS4 Mock Examinations.

We have embedded a clear digital strategy through Google Workspace that involves the utilisation of technology in our classrooms to enhance blended learning and assessment, enabling teachers to give feedback in innovative and creative ways, whilst students have access to resources and necessary websites to enhance their in-class learning during lessons. This means that a Chromebook is part of the essential equipment for lessons at our school.

To facilitate this, all students must have access to a Chromebook that can be safely used in class and on the school site, and we are once again running our Chromebook purchase scheme for our incoming Year 7 and 12 cohorts. This will be the fourth year that we have been offering this scheme. The majority of students already in the school will have access to their own Chromebook device for use in lessons.

If financing a personal device is a concern, we also have support on offer to support families in our school community. To discuss the support available, you can email transitionsupport@rodingvalley.net

Alternatives and On-Site Provision

We only have a limited number of devices in school that are available to use when students do not have their devices.  If you have recently purchased a Chromebook for your child through other methods and it matches the specifications of our purchase scheme Chromebooks, please contact cbleakley@rodingvalley.net for more information on how you can enrol it on our domain, to enable it to be used in school.
