Obsolete & Surplus Inventory is governed by the Surplus or Obsolete Equipment Disposal Policy
Surplus or obsolete equipment, which can no longer be utilized by operations at RISD or is in excess of need, should be disposed of in an accessible, equitable, and orderly fashion that maximizes remaining value for the institution and/or minimizes waste and cost to RISD. Depending on the nature of the inventory, it could be sold, donated or destroyed.
To support and promote sustainability, obsolete furniture is typically transferred to RISD Flips, this will allow the repurposing of furniture to other RISD departments.
Follow RISD policies regarding use of College resources and assets. Departments are strictly prohibited from gifting or selling surplus materials directly to RISD faculty, staff, students, and other individuals.
Please complete and email a RISD Surplus Disposition Form and email to epro@risd.edu
Once Procurement Services receives a completed Disposition form, the inventory will be moved to the RISD warehouse to be processed. (RISD department to submit a work order to move inventory to the RISD warehouse, any moving costs,if any, will be billed to the requesting RISD Dept).
Inventory will be evaluated and processed depending on condition and type. All inventory will either be sold, donated or disposed. The priorty is always to sell the inventory when possible.
If being sold, the inventory will be posted publicly, primarily on www.govdeals.com or other similar websites.
