Physical Education
“Physical Education should inspire all students to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities”.
Physical Education is an important part of the National Curriculum. Students will participate in two lessons of PE per week, one based indoors and the other outdoors. Therefore, it is essential you come to lessons equipped to learn.
Key Assessment Objectives:
• Lead, healthy, active lifestyles
• Develop competence to excel in broad range of physical activities
• Use a range of tactic and strategies to overcome opponents in direct competition
• Analyse and evaluate own performance and demonstrate improvement across a range of physical activities to achieve personal best.
At Outwood Academy Ripon there are a vast amount of enrichment activities taking place. This is where students can increase their learning and enjoyment in their most favoured activities. Many of these we compete at local, county and national level!
In your first year in PE, we have the exciting prospect of two new facilities to teach you in. These being our newly opened refurbished Sports Hall and our new hard standing playing surfaces. These, combined with our amazing playing fields, fitness suite and gym give us a full range of facilities for all sports.
Throughout Year 7, you will have two PE lessons per week. The PE year is broken into six half terms, with two sports being taught in each of these, making twelve different sports during the year. The sports that you will be taught come from the following list.
Football, Netball, Basketball, Hockey, Badminton, Gymnastics, Rugby, Table Tennis, Health Related Fitness, Dance, Volleyball, Cricket, Athletics, Tennis, Rounders.
In Year 8 onwards, you will be taught six sports per year and have one lesson per week. Those students that want to follow an academic course in PE can opt to take Sports Studies.
As well as lessons, there is also the option to attend PE enrichment at the end of the academy day. Here students are able to attend a variety of sporting practices which are published on our enrichment timetable each term.
We also run sports teams in a wide variety of sports and compete against other schools in friendly fixtures, as well as entering Area and North Yorkshire competitions.
