In your first year in History we will explore different aspects of the Medieval World from the Battle of Hastings in 1066, the Black Death and the impact this had on the Peasants' Revolt of 1381. We focus on British History mostly but we take a look at the British Empire at the end of the year.
We hope that your History journey will take you to GCSE History in Year 9, where you will be confident in the skills and language required to be successful.
Year 7 is all about teaching you skills that will help you throughout your five years and inspire you with a wide variety of topics to help you understand why Britain is the way it is today, for example in the Parliament and Magna Carta unit you will discover why our democracy is the way it is today and how it first began.
By the time you reach GCSE you will have the skills and experience to examine History from any time period and context by using skills such as source analysis, giving your opinions on different interpretations of History and to write confidently about how and why History happened the way it did.
To that end you will be able to express opinions, not just in History but in the world around you, and hopefully be able to assess for yourselves the reliability of different sources of information such as the media.
