We would normally invite you all into the Academy for Open Evening to look around, meet your teachers in person and talk to them about what kind of things to expect in lessons. We're not able to do that this year and we know what a big change moving from primary to secondary school is. It's normal to be nervous, especially when you don't know what to expect! We've put together some short videos for you to watch that will hopefully give you an idea of what your school day will be like and who will be teaching and supporting you next year. Please be aware these videos show how Outwood Academy Ripon operates under normal circumstances. Currently we are operating a "bubble" system which keeps year groups separate from each other and maximises student safety. Our most recent risk assessment can be found here.
Mr Fannen is our Head of Maths. He's worked at the Academy since 1998 and maybe even taught some of your parents! We know it's a long time until September but please have a go at his quiz should you wish to.
Mrs Abrahams is one of our English teachers. She is really looking forward to teaching you all and showing you our Learning Resource Centre full of a wide range of interesting and exciting books!
Mr Clarke is our Head of PE. He has some great ideas for lots of fun PE lessons next year and is VERY excited about our new sports hall!
Mr Hunter is one of our History teachers. His classroom is on the main corridor so you will see him a lot. Make sure you say hello to him on your way past!
Mr Shann is our Head of IT, he is also one of our Associate Assistant Principals. You will see him before and after school and during break and lunch times in the dining hall and main corridors. He might also come into some of your lessons just to say hello and have a look at some of your work.
Mr Beever is one of our Assistant Principals. His job is to make sure your learning is as fun and interesting as possible. You'll see him in some of your lessons but he'll be popping in to see your work rather than teaching you in year 7. Make sure you let him know if you've done something you're especially proud of!
Mrs Tarplee is our Inclusion Coordinator. Normally she would visit you at your primary schools throughout year 6 and arrange fo you to visit us. If you have any extra help with anything at primary school, Mrs Tarplee will make sure it continues when you join us.
Mrs Mars is our Bridge manager. The Bridge is a separate classroom where students can go if they need support with anything while they're at school. Mrs Mars has fostered a very welcoming atmosphere in the Bridge, however there are slight restrictions on access to this provision given our current circumstances.
Mrs Arcidiacono is our Business Manager. Her job is to make sure the Academy is safe for everyone. You will see her around a lot before and after school and during lunch or break time checking that everything in the Academy is running as it should be.
