In Science we cover the four strands of the Science curriculum, Living World, Physical World, Material World, and Earth and Space Science in the junior school. This provides the students with an opportunity to engage with a diverse range of content material while learning that Science encompasses the development of investigatory skills and curiosity. Year 12 students choose to specialise in the different strands of Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and Agri-business. Students have the flexibility to choose specialised subject areas that pertain to their chosen future pathways.
By undertaking study in Science subjects students' can embark on a diverse range of tertiary study courses and careers ranging from forestry, environmental planning, health care, sports science, geology, mining, surveying, sustainable land use, advisory roles, land care research, environmental law, engineering , forensic science, and renewable energy. There are no limits to what directions students can go in with Science to support their future pathways.
Science
Science gives you a broad understanding of how the world works, from the tiniest atoms to the vast universe. You’ll explore key concepts in biology, chemistry, and physics, learning how scientific principles shape our everyday lives.
Through experiments and hands-on activities, you'll develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. This course lays the foundation for more specialized science subjects.
Biology
Biology is the study of life, from the smallest cells to entire ecosystems.
You’ll explore how living things grow, adapt, and interact with each other. Topics like genetics, evolution, and ecology will help you understand the complexity of life on Earth.
Chemistry
Chemistry is the study of matter and how it changes. You'll learn about the building blocks of everything around us—atoms and molecules—and how they interact in chemical reactions.
You'll explore topics like acids and bases, the periodic table, and chemical bonding through experiments that make learning hands-on and exciting.
Physics
Physics helps you understand the laws that govern the universe, from the smallest particles to the largest galaxies. You'll explore topics like motion, energy, forces, and electricity through experiments and problem-solving activities. Whether you're curious about how things move or how technology works, physics will give you a solid foundation in understanding the physical world and its principles.
Horticulture is all about growing plants and understanding their role in our environment. You'll learn about plant biology, soil science, and sustainable gardening practices. You'll get hands-on experience with planting, caring for, and harvesting crops, as well as designing gardens.
Whether you’re interested in gardening as a hobby or a career, this course will help you develop the skills to grow healthy plants and appreciate the importance of green spaces.
Agribusiness combines the study of agriculture with business principles. In this course, you'll learn about the production, marketing, and management of agricultural products. Topics include farm management, food production, and the economics of agriculture. You'll explore how technology and innovation are shaping the future of farming and food distribution. This course is perfect for anyone interested in the business side of agriculture, preparing you for a future in the global food industry.
