Career Mentorship is a partnership between Redwood Area Schools and local businesses with the goal of exposing students to employment opportunities in the community. Students work at a local business to learn about the business, an area of interest and the soft skills necessary for success in a job. Daktronics, a worldwide electronics company, offers mentorships in areas such as engineering, materials, metal working, and equipment maintenance. Jackpot Junction Hotel and Casino, which is located nearby on the Lower Sioux Reservation, offers students experiences with graphic design, marketing, culinary arts and events planning/scheduling. Students hired at Reede Gray Elementary School work with classroom teachers from the youngest children in Early Childhood Education through students in the fourth grade. Kibble Equipment offers students experience in careers such as sales, parts and service technicians. Students interested in working as an automobile mechanic can apply to Weelborg Ford. This school year we are excited to partner with Garnette Gardens, an assisted living facility in Redwood Falls, as well as Schult Homes, a home manufacturing company in Redwood Falls.

Our contact information can be found at the bottom of this page.
Step 2: Tour the Career Mentorship Businesses
Students who have expressed interest in the course will all be invited to tour the partnering businesses. The tour is meant to help students better understand the opportunities at each business.
Step 3: Complete Applications
Students will be notified when applications are opened.
Students will be asked to complete the business application and submit their high school transcript and attendance records.
Step 4: Interviews
Students will be contacted by the businesses to arrange for interview dates and times.
Students, remember this is a job interview- dress to impress.
Step 5: Hiring
Partnering businesses will contact all students interviewed to provide feedback on interview process and notify students of employment.
Students must be hired by a partnering business to be enrolled in Career Mentorship. Students not offered a position will meet with Mrs. Carlson for rescheduling.
Step 6: Start Class
For the first three weeks of semester two, all students in the Career Mentorship class will report to Mrs. Beske's class.
After the first three weeks, students will begin reporting to their respective businesses. Mrs. Beske and Mrs. Carlson will conduct on-site visits weekly.
Good attendance and punctuality is extremely important. Assignments will include weekly reflections on what has been learned and how to make the experience the best possible as well as reflections on articles about relevant topics students may encounter in the work force, such as generational differences among co-workers. A capstone project will round out the experiences for the students in Career Mentorship.
