School-to-Work Connections provide students an opportunity to build career awareness while earning high school credit for the experience. School-to-Work Connections can include participation in Career Mentorship, job shadows, business or college tours, and participation in career or college fairs.
Redwood Valley High School is proud to partner with the Redwood Area Chamber to help build connections for our students to local industry.
Mentorships are available for credit during the school day for 12th-grade students. Under the supervision of mentors, students are employed to work for one semester with a community-based employer to learn occupational skills.
Current Career Mentorship Partners: Daktronics, Jackpot Junction, Redwood Area School District, Schult Homes and Weelborg Ford.
Job Shadowing is available to students in grades 10 through 12. Students are excused from school for a half-day or full-day job-shadow experience with a mentor in a career field of interest.
Students are also able to participate in a Job Shadow opportunities through the RVHS Speech class required either their junior or senior year. Instructor, Jenni Shouse-Klassen works with students and local businesses to match student interests with local opportunities. Students are also supported during the course from Redwood Chamber Director, Anne Johnson.
Students will have the opportunity to tour local businesses. Tours demonstrate skills needed within an industry.
Throughout a students time at RVHS, there are several opportunities to learn more about local businesses.
College Campus Tours
In 10th grade, students will have the opportunity to tour two different post-secondary institutions. In addition, students can arrange to tour college campuses on their own or with the assistance of an RVHS School Counselor. Attendance exemption forms can be found in the high school office.
11th and 12th grade students interested in a campus tour or a virtual campus tour/ visit with an admission counselor. Students have two College Visits exempted from their attendance. College visit forms must be completed and returned after the visit. You can find the College Visit form in the High School Office.
Visit colleges (if they are allowing visitors) or have a virtual visit with an admissions counselor - you have 2 College Visits exempted from your attendance as long as you return the form with the correct signatures.
Several opportunities are offered to students to attend college and career fairs. Fairs provide students a chance to explore several interests at one time.
Registration information to virtual college fairs can be found in the HS announcements daily.
Currently RVHS hosts Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Trained Medication Aide (TMA) and Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) courses. RVHS students are able to enroll in these courses, earning both high school and college credits. In addition, training and certification fees are paid for by Redwood Area School District for RVHS students.
The courses offered at the Orrin S. Estebo Center are open to community members. Currently, we are partnered with the Private Industry Council to assist in enrollment and scholarships for eligible adults.
