Step 6: Schedules will be available via Skyward early August
Registration will take place in March for the next school year. Students in ALL grades are required to enroll in 8 total credits per year. Students are urged to spend time with the Registration Guide and to listen carefully to the counselors and teachers as they give directions and assistance in the classroom setting. It is important to make good decisions now about course selection because course changes will be VERY limited and many courses will fill quickly. When selecting courses, take into consideration your strengths, interests, and goals. Use courses to overcome weaknesses and prepare you for the next chapter in your life. Your high school career deserves your best efforts and thoughtful planning.
Note: All Independent Study classes require completion of an Independent Study Form, permission from the instructor, and approval by the office. This must be done by March 31, 2026 so good planning is critical.
A student who has registered for a class is expected to complete the class. If a student has registered for a class, whether a 0.5 credit or 1 credit course, he/she is expected to fulfill that commitment. The only exception will be when, after consultation between the student and teacher, the teacher recommends that for the good of the student, a drop of the class is best for those concerned. If a student drops any time before the completion of the class, no credit will be given. If, at the time of dropping, the student is failing the course, it will be recorded on his/her permanent record as a drop fail.

RVHS Cardinal Pathways
The pathway sequence is designed to help students and their families plan, prepare and connect coursework in high school with post-secondary college and career opportunities. Students will explore various career fields through classes and authentic learning experiences.
The Cardinal Pathways are adapted from the Minnesota Department of Education and the Minnesota State College & University System’s Minnesota Career Fields Wheel found HERE.
Listed below are the six Cardinal Pathways offered at RVHS:
Do I have to choose only one pathway?
Students are not limited by the Cardinal Pathways. The Pathways are intended to help find courses that match student interests and future post-secondary plans. Students can take courses from many different Pathways, as long as RVHS graduation requirements are met.
The following will be the only justifiable reasons for schedule changes. Changes will only be approved if the destination course has seats
available.
· To address a computer error
· To address a deficiency in required credits for graduation
· To address a course size imbalance
· To address schedule conflicts
· To address student placement in an intervention course or program
Schedule changes WILL NOT occur due to concerns including, but not limited to:
· Preference for a different teacher
· Preference for a different class period.
· Preference to be in a course with friends
· Change of mind regarding completing a course

This PowerPoint details how students can submit their course request on Skyward.
Students will need to enter all classes (Required & Elective) into Skyward as well as alternative classes.
Once classes have been entered into Skyward students should make sure to turn in their Registration Sheet to their Homeroom teachers.
