Experiencing extraordinary circumstances, emotions, and events triggers an instantaneous transformation called Ascension. Ascending grants unique transcendental powers based on the circumstances of change. The resulting divine creatures are known as Ascended Beings.
There are approximately 500 registered Ascended Beings in Readymade Utopia. The total number of Ascended beings is unknown, but researchers estimate that thousands could exist. Species does not impact ability to ascend. Even robots have been known to ascend. Maximum intensity of experience and motivation are only uniting factors among Ascended Beings.
Even though Ascended Beings are extensively researched, there is no scientifically definite path to Ascension. Abilities cannot be learned—magic cannot artificially create a situation which would cause ascension. Magic can also not mimic Ascended powers. Ascended Beings themselves cannot create more Ascended Beings, they cannot grant their powers to others and their offspring will not inherit their powers.
While the Ascended are thought to be ruled by magic, the laws of magic do not apply to their abilities. For this reason, Ascended Beings are considered outside of the traditional realm of magic. Some spell creators and magical inventors will take inspiration or derive energy from these creatures, or even consider them figures of worship.
Many Ascended Beings are older than written word. Their stories are told and re-told, making them nearly impossible to verify. However, their mysticism shapes the legend and history of our world. A few will occasionally verify and correct misinformation through the Registry of Ascended Beings, but researchers do not consider Ascended Beings reliable sources on their history. Very little is known about the psyche of the Ascended.
The way these beings interact with the broader world varies greatly. Some are celebrities, using their abilities to help society or becoming entertainers. Others may choose to be elusive, wanting to fade from existence entirely. Because their power is indistinguishable from divinity, many Ascended Beings find themselves the center of worship. Given the single-mindedness of their purpose, most do not register or have the ego to consider themselves gods. People are vaguely loyal to their local ascended but more like a sports team loyalty than giving sacrifices and what not. It’s generally known what more public facing legends are actually able to do.
Ascended Beings are typically linked to the location of their ascension. Many perpetuate the intensity of emotion which caused their ascension, meaning they do not desire to leave or change their circumstances. This makes the study of Ascension especially challenging, as Ascended Beings have no desire to pursue any additional purpose outside of the realm of their powers.
Cloud controllers; tethered to Three Cloud City one for each cloud (rain, snow, just cloud) who work with the weather control gov't service to manipulate the daily weather, which is planned far in advance in attempt to produce optimal economic conditions/mood/etc. They never leave their clouds but are more or less ~normal dudes~ if you talk to em.
