Personalized learning is an instructional approach that empowers students to build ownership of their learning. Virtual field trips can greatly enhance personalized learning by providing students with unique, immersive, and interactive educational experiences. Look at both resources below.
1. Below you will find a choice board of 9 links to different resources and examples of virtual field trips from Google Earth and Google Arts and Culture.
2. Explore at least three of the chosen resources by clicking on the links and navigating through the pages.
3. As you explore, write down three things you notice from each resource. These could be specific features or tools that you find interesting, or larger concepts or ideas that you find valuable for your virtual field trip experience.
4. Once you have completed your exploration, go to the next page and respond to the following prompt:
Based on your exploration of the virtual field trip resources, what are three things you noticed from each resource that you could incorporate into your teaching practices to create a more engaging and immersive virtual field trip for your students? Be specific and provide examples.
Embarking on virtual trips can be an exciting and engaging way to bring learning to life. However, planning and executing a successful virtual trip can be a daunting task. 1. Determine the learning objectives that align with your educational standards.
2. Choose a virtual field trip that addresses the identified standards. Utilize the choice board to assist you in finding a suitable trip.
*Optional: You may create your own Google Earth trip using provided instructions, but it is not required for this class.
3. Design learning activities that engage and focus students throughout the experience. Clearly explain the tasks involved in the three components: "Let's get started," "Let's explore," and "Let's reflect," both for yourself and the students.
4. Create a handout from scratch or modify an existing template from the template folder. This handout will be filled out by students as they explore the virtual trip.
Once you have created your activity, let's post and share so we can all get ideas from one another!
Start a post and include the following information about your activity:
the learning objective(s) for the virtual trip
link to the chosen virtual trip
explain the tasks involved in the three components: "Let's get started," "Let's explore," and "Let's reflect," both for yourself and the students
link to the student handout to be filled out digitally or physically as they explore the virtual trip
If you are using Seesaw or Google Classroom, include a screenshot of the assignment
Read through your colleague's virtual trip activities and give them feedback so they can implement their trip successfully with students.
