DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is a mid-level food service position involving executing the Federal Breakfast/lunch program within the assigned building. Employees of this class are responsible for ensuring the operation is running smoothly. This position involves the ordering, receipt, checking, and recording of inventory, cash collection and reconciliation, upholding food safety and sanitation standards, and taking on the lead role within the cafeteria. Employees maintain manual and computer records of receipts and disbursements. Work is performed under direct supervision of a Field Supervisor. Light supervision of others is a responsibility of this class. Does related work as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Creates and promotes a great customer service environment through positive engagement and interaction with customers and peers.
· Places food orders through Computer ordering system.
· Traditional cashier duties, including but not limited to recording sales, making change, etc.
· Oversees the overall cleanliness/sanitation levels of the kitchen, and directs self and others accordingly to maintain high sanitation standards
· Recognizes and properly records students’ reimbursable meals.
· Documents all aspects of work, including but not limited to: daily thermometer calibration, final cooking temperature of foods, cooler/freezer temperature, temperatures of food at the end of each meal period, corrective actions taken when food is out of temp.
· Runs cash reports at the end of each day, and reconciles cash.
· Integrates oneself to the assigned building, and creates/maintains communication with building administration/teachers.
· Reviews District e-mails daily, and responds as necessary.
· Signs in and out on the computer daily for each shift.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Must be able to lift and move up to 30 lbs. for short distances
· Must be able to properly bend/lift.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of the techniques involved in collecting and accounting for large amounts of money; good knowledge of standard office practices, terminology, and equipment; ability to collect and record large amounts of money; ability to maintain accurate records and accounts; ability to supply information for computer use; ability to operate basic office machines; ability to deal with the public; ability to follow directions; accuracy; integrity. Willingness to perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor in regards to keeping the operation running effectively.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: There are no education or experience qualifications for this position. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, plus two (2) years of experience in bookkeeping, record keeping, or as a cashier in areas dealing with large amounts of money is preferred. ServSafe certification is also preferred. If not certified at time of hire, must become Servsafe Certified, before end of probationary period. Certification must be maintained for full career in School Food Services.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR ACCEPTANCE OF APPLICATIONS:
Applicants for this position must be eligible for security bond.
Special Requirement for Appointment to School Districts and BOCES:
Per Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and by Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, to be employed in a position designated by a school district or BOCES as involving direct contact with students, a clearance for employment from the State Education Department is required.
