Electromagnetism and Magnetic Levitation Challenges

Our first step into Electromagnetism and Magnetic Levitation!

Last year, we took our first step into teaching and learning about magnetic levitation and electromagnetism! We purchased a Magnetic Levitation Kit from Kidder Canada - here is the link: https://kidder.ca/education/physics/magnetics/magnet-levitation-kit-cat-80-54-3560.html

Our plan was to introduce these topics before our school's science fair and have some students pursue them in groups to learn and share as experts. As time was a constraint, we were only able to have one group pursue the Magnetic Levitation kit and share their knowledge at the science fair. It was very interesting to students, so I am hoping that next year, we will continue with the next step - building mag lev cars and racing them down a mag lev track! Here is the link for the resources from Kidder for students to build mag lev cars, and the track:

Our plan is to build the track with the students out of wood and metal and allow the students to participate in the build by planning, measuring, and building the track with our direct supervision. We will update our website with pictures and lesson plans once this has been carried out! Stay tuned!
