WSCA Graduation Requirements specify that students much complete two years of a world language (same language) with a grade of “C” or higher, although three years are recommended.
This graduation requirement was set by our school district, as to be in alignment with the California public four-year college and university application requirements.
Western Sierra Collegiate Academy students typically begin Spanish I or Mandarin I in 8th grade. This course can be applied to a student's high school graduation credits.
Students interested in taking language courses other than Spanish or Mandarin may do so through one of the following ways outside of WSCA:
2 years or through the second year of a high school world language course at another high school, as long as the course is A-G approved).
A letter grade of C or better in any UC-transferable course at an accredited college/university. One semester of a UC-transferable World Language class typically will clear two full years of a high school world language class. This excludes conversational courses.
The following local community colleges may offer the following world languages. Please note these courses are subject to change. Please see our page on Academic Enrichment to review the process for Sierra College course registration. For college registration outside of Sierra College, students will need to navigate registration processes on their own.
