What Application Should I Complete?
ALL Students should complete a FAFSA or Dream Act Application
U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens (i.e. permanent residents) should complete the FAFSA.
Do not assume you cannot get aid just because you aren’t a citizen. FAFSA Eligibility requirements
Allows students interested in attending eligible California Colleges, Universities and Career Education Programs to apply for state financial aid. This application is unrelated to the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
Only complete the CSS Profile if prompted by your specific college.
Why Apply?
Required to be eligible for California Community College Two Year's Free Program.
Colleges may give more merit aid if not eligible for state funds.
Some colleges may not accept you if FAFSA is not submitted.
- Required to be eligible for Work -Study and Student Loans.
When to Apply to FAFSA?
Beginning October 1st of senior year.
Must apply by March 2 to remain eligible for Cal Grant and to guarantee First Two Years Free for Sierra College
Watch for institutional deadlines as they may be sooner than March 2nd.
Many grants on first-come first-serve basis.
Will use prior prior year’s tax returns.
