Wind Symphony

at Strayer Middle School

About the Wind Symphony

Wind Symphony is a high quality concert band experience for advanced students in 7th and 8th grade to help prepare them for the rigors of the High School band program. Students will play advanced but exciting music and work to further refine their ensemble playing skills while developing their individual technique and musicianship through some experience with solo and small ensemble playing. Wind Symphony students are eligible to audition for Jazz Band and also participate in the small ensembles.

The Wind Symphony has received many accolades over the past few years including consistent Superior ratings at festivals. The Wind Symphony was selected to perform at the 2017 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Conference in Erie, PA.

Students will be selected for Wind Symphony through audition only, held at the end of the previous school year. The Wind Symphony season will culminate in a concert and adjudication followed by a fun-filled day at an amusement park. The Strayer Wind Symphony has received a Superior rating and the Best Overall Concert Band Award at the 2015 and 2016 Music in the Parks festivals at Six Flags Great Adventure and Dorney Park respectively.

Instrumentation for Wind Symphony is typically around 50-60 members and follows a more "one-on-a-part" approach of traditional Wind Ensembles. Because Wind Symphony performs challenging literature with more exposure, students are expected to be independent learners, practice daily, and work hard. But, performing in a top notch musical ensemble is an amazing and rewarding experience!
