The aim of the Strayer Middle School band is to provide every student with an exceptional musical experience, to give every student a chance to explore their creativity and develop their talents in a safe and positive environment, and to help every student navigate the social landscape of middle school with a supportive group of peers who share a similar interest in music.
We hope you are doing well!
For musicians, one of the most difficult things about school closing is not being able to make music with each other on a regular basis. We miss our band family! It will be a happy day when we can all be together playing again. Until then, stay safe and keep the music going!

The Strayer Middle School Band is a group of approximately 175 seventh and eighth grade students at Strayer Middle School in Quakertown, Pennsylvania. The Band Director is Mrs Rachael Urquhart, a 2007 graduate of QCHS. The 2020-2021 school year will be Mrs Urquhart's second year at Strayer, and ninth year of her teaching career.
The three concert bands perform concerts several times a year, typically in October, December, February, and May. Students in Wind Symphony and Strayer Jazz have additional performances. In addition to ensemble rehearsals, students have the opportunity to perform in small ensembles.
In addition to the three concert bands, which are open to all students, the band program includes a highly competitive and successful Jazz Band, which is by audition only. Students must be active and dedicated members of one of the three concert ensembles to be considered for membership in the Jazz Band. Strayer Jazz has consistently received Superior ratings in local festivals and multiple awards for best sections and soloists.
The Strayer Wind Symphony was selected to perform at the 2017 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) Conference in Erie, PA, and the Jazz Band performed at the PMEA Conference in 2016 in Hershey, PA.
