Chorus/Vocal Music

at the Sixth Grade Center

Overview

The Sixth Grade Center Chorus, also known as Vocal Music Class, is a supportive musical community, directed by Mrs. Melanie Hazelrigg, comprised of singers and piano or guitar accompanists. All students at the Sixth Grade Center have the opportunity to participate in Chorus as a part of their school day.

As members of chorus and/or band and orchestra, sixth grade students become part of the rich and vibrant musical community at the sixth grade center. All sixth grade students are welcome to join chorus, regardless of previous levels of experience. The chorus environment emphasizes teamwork, acceptance, and musicality.

Throughout their time in sixth grade chorus, students develop foundational skills and increase their confidence in learning to read choral music and understand and interpret musical markings. They learn to follow conducting gestures and to sing challenging and rewarding repertoire while maintaining vocal health. Most importantly, choral students connect with their peers while creating transformative art that benefits themselves and their community.
