General Music

at the Sixth Grade Center

Overview

Students at the Sixth Grade Center may take a General Music elective as part of their coursework. The class meets every other day for one semester. This class is ideal for students who are interested in learning more about reading and writing music, playing instruments, and understanding the elements of music.

The General Music curriculum is comprised of four units. These are: 1) Feel It: Beat and Rhythm; 2) Play It: Melody and Tempo; 3) Strum It: Harmony and Dynamics; and 4) Create It: Form, Texture, and Timbre. In each of these units, students will become knowledgeable music consumers and proficient music creators while exploring music as it relates to making connections and sharing common life experiences.
