Science

All students receiving special education services will be enrolled in a science course for each year of middle school. Below are the descriptions for small group Science courses. If a student qualifies for in class support classes, those students will be enrolled in a general education Science course which contains a general education teacher as well as a special education teacher.

Small Group Science 6:

The Small Group Science program seeks to foster a curiosity about the natural world and a love of science. The program builds toward higher-level thinking skills using both formative and summative assessments. It aims to develop the knowledge, understanding, and skills that will appropriately support the development of students. Students will be exposed to a variety of Earth Science topics including: rocks, minerals, earth, sun and moon systems, atmosphere, weather, and plate tectonics. Topics will be reinforced through hands-on activities and labs. 

Small Group Science 7:

The Small Group Science program seeks to foster a curiosity about the natural world and a love of science. The program builds toward higher-level thinking skills using both formative and summative assessments. It aims to develop the knowledge, understanding, and skills that will appropriately support the development of students. Topics include but are not limited to cell biology & biochemistry, ecology, DNA & heredity, and the human body system. 

Small Group Science 8:

The RC Science program seeks to foster a curiosity about the natural world and a love of science. The program builds toward higher-level thinking skills using both formative and summative assessments. It aims to develop the knowledge, understanding, and skills that will appropriately support the development of students. Students will be exposed to and have hands-on experience with waves (sound & light), physics (motion, force & energy), chemistry (matter, chemical reactions, & atomic structure), and electricity & magnetism (circuits & currents)
