This course focuses on introducing students to pre-algebra topics and beginning to think more abstractly with mathematics while strengthening foundational skills.  Our curriculum focuses on expressions and equations, decimals and fractions, ratios, unit rates and percents, positive and negative numbers, geometry and statistical thinking.

Math 6 Honors:

Students focus on the number system, expressions, equations, ratios, and proportions, along with a bit of geometry and statistics. This is a fast-paced course, not only going through the 6th grade math curriculum, but part of the 7th grade math curriculum as well. Students are challenged to apply their mathematical knowledge to real world application problems. Expectations for students are held high for responsibility and accountability within this honors course.

Science 6 (Earth Science):

Earth Science components include geology, astronomy, and meteorology. Students will be exposed to a variety of topics in each of these fields including: rocks and minerals, earth, sun and moon systems, erosion and deposition, weather, and plate tectonics. Topics will be reinforced through hands-on activities and labs. After completing this course, students will have an understanding of how the Earth was formed, its neighbors in space, how it has changed over time, and how it consists of various systems, which interact to make it a planet capable of supporting life.

Social Studies 6:

6th grade Social Studies is designed to build upon and master map skills students have been introduced to at the elementary level. Students will travel the world building knowledge about others’ landscapes, locations and culture. Students are introduced to new places while learning about their geography, history and what it is like in that place today. The 6th grade curriculum is designed for our students to understand the world around them in both the physical and human sense. This curriculum will prepare students for next year as they really dive deeper into the beginning of various civilizations.

Health and PE 6:

In Health and Physical Education, students will learn the fundamentals and skills for lifelong fitness. Students will participate in a variety of different forms of exercise and also implement self growth activities such as team building and mindfulness.

RTI:

The RTI Program is designed for students in grades six through eight. In each respective course, skills are reviewed and reinforced. The purpose of the course is to help struggling readers and problem solvers become more confident and develop an appreciation for reading and mathematics. As the grade levels progress, the courses continue to place importance in bridging any gaps in skill development of the grade-level curriculum with the flexibility to reinforce or extend concepts and skills based on students' needs.
