Through reading, writing, collaboration, projects, and other learning experiences, students will improve their overall communication skills.

Math 7:

This course builds upon the standards taught in 6th grade. Students will focus on working with rational numbers, equations and inequalities, ratios/proportions, geometry (circles, angles, triangles, and surface area/volume of solids), statistics and probability. Students will be asked to make connections and explain the mathematical processes.

Math 7 Honors:

In this course, students will work through the 7th grade curriculum at an accelerated rate with a focus on working with rational numbers, expressions and equations, ratios and proportions, geometry, statistics and probability. Throughout our time working with the 7th grade curriculum, students will also begin to be introduced to topics from the 8th grade curriculum which will include more complex equations, graphing linear equations, Pythagorean theorem, and exponents/scientific notation. This course is meant to prepare students to take Algebra I in their 8th grade year.

Science 7 (Life Science):

Students will be immersed into the world of Life Science. This course will continue to help students develop problem-solving skills by using inquiry, science and engineering practices.  Supported by the text and technology, learning occurs on a number of different levels and addresses a wide variety of learning styles. Topics include but are not limited to cell biology & biochemistry, DNA & heredity, human body systems and ecology.

Science 7 Honors (Life Science):

In this course students will work through our 7th grade curriculum at a faster pace with extension activities and labs. Students will be immersed into the world of Life Science. This course will continue to help students develop problem-solving skills by using inquiry, science and engineering practices. Supported by the text and technology, learning occurs on a number of different levels and addresses a wide variety of learning styles. Topics include but are not limited to clinical trials, human body systems, anatomy and dissection of a chicken wing and frog, cell biology and diseases, genetics, and if time allows, ecology.

Social Studies 7:

7th Grade Social Studies will cover the history, culture, geography, politics, and religions of ancient civilizations. The time period spans from approximately 8000 BC to 600 AD. It begins with the Stone Ages and continues up to the fall of the Roman Empire. From empires to city-states, the historical civilizations from around the world have each made a contribution to the development of mankind. Understanding the people and events of past millennia is critical to understanding the modern world. Questions like, “how did these events impact today’s society,” will be confidently answered by students by the end of the school year. Students will also learn other skills in the classroom to promote being a well-rounded individual such as respect, organization, preparedness, writing, and comprehension.

Health and PE 7:

In Health and Physical Education, students will learn the fundamentals and skills for lifelong fitness. Students will participate in a variety of different forms of exercise and also implement self growth activities such as team building and mindfulness.

RTI:

The RTI Program is designed for students in grades six through eight. In each respective course, skills are reviewed and reinforced. The purpose of the course is to help struggling readers and problem solvers become more confident and develop an appreciation for reading and mathematics. As the grade levels progress, the courses continue to place importance in bridging any gaps in skill development of the grade-level curriculum with the flexibility to reinforce or extend concepts and skills based on students' needs.
